  • 119,101 miles
Tuesday, October 25, 2016 the engine cradle rusted through and the engine lowered and the cradle itself was dragging along the street. My wife was leaving our town of owosso, Michigan to go to doctor appointments in lansing, Michigan about 35 miles away. The Pacifica had 119,101 miles on it and was otherwise in excellent condition. We had purchased the car from a Chrysler dealership about 15 miles away about seven years prior with 42,000 miles on it. It had always been serviced at the dealership until the dealership was sold in February 2016. Without repair the value of the vehicle was just scrap metal, repair was an absolute to salvage any value, the repair cost $3214.07.

Just took my 2006 Chrysler Pacifica in for annual nys inspection as was told it failed due to severe rotting of the main engine cradle and it was a serious safety concern. This came as a total shock as the car has shown no other rusting of any body parts and has been a mechanically sound vehicle until this point. The mechanic showed me underneath the car and the other under carriage components are in acceptable shape, only the cradle is rusted through. I drove it to the local Chrysler dealer and they said that this problem is known by Chrysler and that I should call Chrysler and report the problem. The dealer estimate for repair was $4400! I called Chrysler directly from dealership and after some review I was told there was nothing that could be done for me!! I now have a junk vehicle with no resale possibility and I cant afford a $4400 repair nor can I allow my wife or myself to drive it without the repair being done as it is unsafe. Please help me get Chrysler to step up and fix the cradle as I have seen massive amounts of similar comments online about this issue and people are being put at great risk! Chrysler has repaired this issue at their cost for certain 2004 and 2005 Pacificas....I maintain they are responsible as well to repair my 2006 under recall as well!! they are fully aware that this problem exists!

I was performing a complete brake job on my vehicle and noticed that the engine cradle on my vehicle is rusted out. I don't mean surface rust, there are actual holes in the engine cradle. I feel that this is a major safety issue. I contacted Chrysler and all they can tell me is that my vehicle is out of warranty. I find it totally ridiculous for Chrysler not to stand behind their product. This is my no means normal, I own a 1965 thunderbird with not a bit of rot on the undercarriage. What the hell is Chrysler and/or the NHTSA waiting for to recalled and repair these faulty vehicles, someone to die first ? your Agency will have someone's blood on you hands also if someone dies in an accident caused by this defect.I am beginning to think that Chrysler is paying you guys off or something. All this brings to mind the fiasco of the Chrysler 2.7L engine that failed in thousands of vehicles due to the poor design of that engine. No recall was ever forced upon Chrysler for that debacle and I am beginning to think the same thing will apply here also. People spend good money for these flawed vehicles then when something happens the NHTSA and Chrysler both basically say the hell with the consumer. There is no way the NHTSA can believe that an engine cradle rotting out in 8-9 year and in a lot of cases less time than that is acceptable. I thought that your organization was here to protect the public and see that these type of things don't happen.please explain to me how and why Chrysler is getting away with this. Ohhh, I know, no one has died yet !!!

The sub frame and engine cradle are completely rusted away! the vehicle was purchased new, garage kept and dealer serviced. The engine sub frame and cradle is rusted and gone from the vehicle. This is so unsafe! car sub frames never rust away. Chrysler is placing peoples lives in jeopardy! profit over lives. Please take some action on this serious life threatening issue.

My car seats move while I am driving automatically. With my seat belt on sometimes I cant touch the pedals. Also, my car is stalling and it eats oil nonstop. I have had it checked and nothing is shown as wrong. I see there was a recall for this model and it was done so why is this still happening. Seat issue is very dangerous, I have to drive and hold the button forward on the door to stop it from moving.

We bought our 2006 Chrysler Pacifica from the original owner with 110,000 miles I think. The inspection sticker was new and now a year later our entire engine cradle is completely rusted through and wont take a sticker whatsoever. There's no way this kind of rust is normal and when I went online I saw that this is a recurring problem on these cars and a new cradle is 2,500 without installation this is Chrysler fault we always washed the car during winter months at the carwash. We bought this car because it had the room great safety features and now I find out its a accident waiting to happen and we gotta eat this cost. Im going to our local newspaper because this isn't right and Chrysler only helped with cost on so many cars and the same engine cradle fits 04,05 and 06 Pacificas so all these cars should be covered because there is obviously something wrong with the material they used. Any help on how or who to contact I know were not alone I this complaint.

I was having problems with my "check engine" light kept coming on. I took it up to my mechanic several times & he couldn't find anything wrong. He finally performed a smoke test. Was unable to find any leaks. His computer said I had a small leak detected. He said my fuel pump module was the problem & it would probably cost around $1,000 to fix since he had to drop the gas tank. Couldn't get anywhere with Chrysler. I've been driving now a year & a half plus now my gascap light is also on. I do have my mechanic check whenever I go get my oil change & he resets the check engine light, but it does come back on within a day. I've been on several websites & this is a Chrysler problem that they need to fix. I don't want to end up where I stall out like what I've been reading.

I took my 2006 Chrysler Pacifica for new tires and a New York state inspection. The mechanic had the car on the lift and told me the engine cradle sub frame was rusted/rotted out and that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The vehicle is 8 years old and has only approximately 55,000 miles. The right and left sections of the engine cradle sub frame where there is welding are the only sections of the frame that are rusted/rotted out to the point where you could stick a finger through the rotted out section (can provide pictures if needed). I contacted Chrysler's national customer support and was assigned a case number and told to take the vehicle to a locate dealership for digital imaging that would help Chrysler determine if it was a factory defect or alternatively owner caused. I did as instructed and was told a few days later that the frame rot was not a factory defect but rather owner caused. The Chrysler dealership provided an estimate of repair of approximately $5,000. After a brief internet search, I realized this is a common issue with the Chrysler Pacifica and is a safety issue that the Pacifica owners like myself and the general public have not been made aware of. Per my mechanic and other government departments that I have discussed this issue with, if the engine cradle sub frame were to give out while the vehicle is driven, a serious and potentially deadly accident could occur. Needless to say, the car will not be driven by my family until repaired as I won't risk the potential consequence. I'm filing this complaint with the hope that at minimum Pacifica owners are notified of the potential for frame rot to proactively reduce the chance of the inevitable accident. Also, I am disappointed in Chrysler for not taking responsibility for this issue as other car manufacturers such as Toyota, Hyundai and Ford have when presented with similar safety issues.

Rust issue on front engine cradle. My mechanic told me that I had a badly corroded engine cradle. We bought the car used and it just turned 71K miles. Dealer denied the recall, there is a small window of vehicles manufactured between Feb.23, 2004 and March 31,2004, a pretty small window. A couple of calls to Chrysler customer assistance has fallen on deaf ears. The dealer and Chrysler are not budging. It is the principle of a design problem that Chrysler is not fully standing behind. For reference, the Chrysler warranty bulletin is no:D-10-34 dated March 16, 2012. Subject is listed as (X26) front engine cradle extended warranty 2004-2005 Chrysler Pacifica's. we have a 2006 and have the same issue and Chrysler needs to recall all of the models affected! I have 2 children and a wife and we depend on this vehicle. Mechanic states it is not safe to drive!!!! I cannot get any explanation as to quite why that is from Chrysler despite numerous contacts with the customer care people from Chrysler and/or dealership. I have never seen any type of damage such as this. What needs to be done to fix this problem? thank you for your help.

Vehicle was bought 1 year ago from used car dealership, no carfax available, had 120,000 miles, ran great for 4 months. Started having stalling problems, check light coming off/on, had diagnosed as possible fuel pump gage reading wrong, catalytic converter possible. Had check light reset, continued to have major stalling of engine at any speed. Replaced both primary and secondary fuel pump, catalytic converter, 02 sensor (rear). Total repairs $2,718.74, still has same problem. Problem when vehicle stalls, loss of power unexpectedly, loss of control due to shutdown causes concern, accident waiting to happen, expenses beyond expectations for general maintenance of vehicle. No help from Chrysler dealership. Says mileage too high, no warranty for defect, beyond dealership scope of concern for customer.

During a routine inspection of our vehicle the mechanic stated vehicle was in perfect condition except that the subframe (engine cradle) had a one foot section that was completely rusted through. He also stated that since the vehicle had only 76000 miles on it that this should not be occurring. Other mechanics in that shop concurred. Chrysler had, in the previous two model years (04 & 05), extended the warranties to 10 years/150,000 miles (Chrysler document 0004817/#45543/X26) accepting responsibility for a faulty product and covering the expenses incurred by consumer making their vehicles roadworthy and safe. This is truly a safety issue that has not been resolved by the manufacturer as this component supports the engine and front suspension/steering assemblies. Calls to Chrysler have not been productive. I do not understand their reluctance to address a safety issue that they have addressed in the past. Problem has not changed just the model year. Hopefully the NHTSA can initiate a safety recall to address this. There are similar complaints concerning this on this site. Does there have to be a serious accident before something is done?

Noticed a couple of times that the car hesitated when merging on to highway or accelerating on the highway. Today however, it did that in town, going about 35 mph and then stalled, check engine light came on and smoke came out from under the hood. Now it won't even start.

Ive had this car for just over one year. I have replaced 2 motor mounts, 6 months apart. The electric cooling fan motor bearing went bad and you cant replace just the motor, you have to replace both motors, both fans and the shroud ( ridiculous ). my check engine light is on and says fuel cap on dash but I replaced the cap and now as I'm looking on this site I know its probably the gas tank lines cracked. Ive also got the sticky gas pedal, transmission bangs into 2nd randomly. My conclusion after reading about so many problems that many people are having with this vehicle is that there should be recalls. I mean jesus were talking about fire hazards and a sticking accelerator potentially causing an accident. Nothing but problems with this car at such low miles. Never again Chrysler.

Obtained car brand new in 2006, yr later had to replace engine, was said they gave us a new one, prior to that we had sunroof issue that still persist to this day 6years later... electrical off. One minute you have gas and next minute literally fuel light is on..fast forward a tad 2007 stalling problems, ...fast forward even more 30,000miles later.... stalling allllllllot, especially while I'm driving with my kids. Making a U-turn and just simply parking into a space no go.. gas cap light is on, check engine light on.... currently vehicle is at dealership which was charging us $2,632 to fix problems, besides overcharging ridiculously, Chrysler offered to pay most of bill after doing research and realizing we were getting ripped off, a two day job is now turned into 1week, no vehicle, no loaner.. 6yrs. Later failed emissions test is what prompted me to take it to a dealership...now I cannot pass an emissions test nor register my vehicle @ end month>( today). Would like to trade, however they low balled me & said $4,000.they cannot get car to reset, and still could not find out why it is stalling. After letting dealership know I have an open case seems like they are singing a different tune...still no car/ no fix...

On March 5, 2012 I was required to pay $95 for a full diagnostic to satisfy [xxx] ([xxx] corporate office). The service was rendered by capital Chrysler 200 waterfield ridge place, garner nc 27529. The service rep [xxx] and service manager [xxx] informed me that the catalytic converter replacement looked used due to the rust on it and was causing other mechanical failures in my vehicle but would not confirm this in writing. I do not have an extra $1000.25 sitting around to pay for a part that Chrysler is well aware of it being defective or used. Chrysler settled a lawsuit in 2005-6 with the U. S. environmental protection Agency for the defective catalytic converter. In closing, as a resolution to this matter I would like all repairs related to this matter replaced at no expense to me by a certified Chrysler dealership of my choosing. After viewing the information on the following websites; www.daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com, www.epa.gov/compliance/resources/cases/civil/caa/DaimlerChrysler-fcsht.html, and www.lemonaidcars.com/secretwarranties.html I am even more educated and convinced that my 02 oxygen sensors and catalytic converter were defective initially when I purchased my vehicle and that it was replaced with a used and/or defective by [xxx] Chrysler dealership. Listed below are additional issues I have experienced with my car since owning it: 1.second replacement of catalytic converter and 02 oxygen sensors 2.head lights and tail light going out faster than any other car I have owned. 3.humming engine noise, less engine power than it initially had, 4.frequent replacement of the battery 3 times IN5 years. Is that normal? 5.sticky gas pedal, it is very hard to push down at times information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
