Pacifica 4.0L

The fuel tank is a saddle type system and it relies on a series of pumps and valves to help transfer fuel from one side to the other. With this problem the fuel mainly only fills on the inlet side, and will not transfer to the secondary side.

It may be a vent issue, or it may be a pump issue, no one can really say.

The gas gauge also cannot keep track of what is happening due to this problem.

It's a problem run with the gas gauge reading empty. Now I have another problem. I was stopped at a red light, when I put my foot on the accelerator to resume driving, the car began to shake and then it cut off. I had to pull over as quickly as possible. If a car had been driving behind me fast, I could have gotten hit in the back which could have been traumatic or even fatal.

I had to have the car towed. The dealership that it was taken to diagnosed the major problem as the 2 fuel pumps needed replacing; in addition to other items. The vehicle only has 170,000 miles. There are other people having the same problem with the Pacifica (2006 and 2008 models as well).

Chrysler needs to admit that their fuel pumps are faulty and replace them before a fatality happens and, in addition to replacing the pumps, they are faced with lawsuits.

Paid $8641 (trade in not included) in April 2014. Since April, I have had to have tire repaired (small leak) within a week. I knew the tire was low and dealer told me he had fixed it before I left lot. Dealer was 180 miles from home. The Automatic tail gate does not open with remote, never fixed. This is just the beginning. When the dealer checked this car he must of been someone working the summer break from grade school? Read my other nightmares with this car.

Pacifica Limited 4.0L

Fuel gauge inaccurate, very difficult to fill tank. After 2-3 gallons, the fuel fill nozzle keeps shutting off, with fuel burping out of the fill receptacle. The fuel tank acts as though it is full, but it is not.

We just had this problem fixed nine months, 11,934 miles previous to this. Independent very reputable repair shop installed genuine Chrysler parts purchased from the nearest Chrysler dealer: Woodhouse Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Sioux City, IA.

I have pictures erratic fuel gauge reading -- of fuel gauge at 1/2 tank, then on "Empty" three miles later. The pictures show both fuel gauge and odometer in each image and are time, date, and GPS location stamped.

We first had trouble convincing the repair shop of recurrence of this problem. When the repair shop was later convinced of this problem, the car had passed 12,000 miles since the first repair.

Inquiring about the parts warranty, my mechanic told me that the representative at Woodhouse Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Sioux City, Iowa told him to "pound sand". In other words, the parts warranty was invalid because we let the odometer go over 12,000 miles after the first repair.

My mechanic told me that this is a common problem in these cars. A design problem.

This is our first Chrysler vehicle for I have always purchased GM vehicles. Because of this, it likely will be our last Chrysler product. I always have had much better support from GM.

Update from Jan 17, 2015: In our attempt to repair this car, in January, 2014 we spent over $1,300. Now, we have to have it repaired again, at our expense. Chrysler has failed to correct this design problem. So now they and their dealers are profiting by selling and installing inferior replacement fuel pump/fuel level sender assemblies, fuel tanks, and related parts.

Pacifica Touring 4.0L

This whole saga began when we couldn't smog our car due to the engine light staying on. So we took it to an independent Shell Station to have it looked at and we were told that a small pump that transfers gas from one side of the tank to the other had a crack in the housing causing the problem. We had the part replaced for $1,000, engine light went out and we were able to smog the car. No more than two weeks later the fuel gauge began showing lower than normal fuel levels and we are unable to put more than two to three gallons of gas in the tank. Even though we are sure that we have plenty of gas in the tank the fuel gauge still reads empty and we run out of gas like the tank is completely empty. We are on hold for now until our mechanic that did the work recovers from a heart attack he recently had!!
