Pacifica

  • Automatic transmission

I am scared to drive my car when it rains! What good is a car if you can't drive it???? Every time my car travels over a water puddle, even a small one, I loose power steering! My 16 year old son was stuck in the middle of an intersection because he had to drive through a puddle. He was in the middle of turning and it completely went out on him. This is VERY DANGEROUS!!!! I have taken the car to the shop and they cannot find anything wrong with it. They said that there was nothing they could do.

Pacifica Touring V6

I purchased my '07 Pacifica 3/15/13 & was extremely happy... for the first week or so. Soon thereafter, however, the steering locked up when pulling into a local gas station (after it rained), causing me not to be able to turn back to get to the pumps. This of course freaked not only me out, but as well as my sister, her two small children & the 2 of mine that were with us. The car that was following us, of course, had no idea what was going on. They just saw us turn (right) into the gas station, & then go straight, as if parking, vs turning left to go towards the pumps, since I told them I needed to get gas. No sooner than it happened, it loosened back up, so I was able to back up, & proceed as usual.

Then a little over a month after purchasing the vehicle, 4/23/13 (approx 1- 1/2 weeks after the steering locked up) while on my way to work one morning, the alarm sounded & the dash light went on showing that the car was 'overheating' yet there was no steam coming from the front end. I immediately pulled over & checked the car out. Still no steam. I babied it to work & had one of my co-workers, who coincidentally owns an '06 Pacifica, check it. SOMEHOW the Radiator was BONE-DRY! Yet it wasn't leaking at all, hadn't shown any signs in my driveway previously either.

So I called the (used) dealership where I bought it from, & had them come & tow it back to the shop. Upon further investigation, there was apparently a hairline crack in it &, get this, ALL were on back-order! So 2 days later they finally get it, get it installed, & filled. While they have it in the shop, I have them check the steering. Of course it doesn't lock up w/ them (doesn't rain), so, hey, say there is nothing they can do about it. Since then it has happened 3 more times. The next time in a turning lane, I was stopped thank goodness! Today was twice! Luckily I was not on the road, nor were my kids in the car with me! Something needs to be done about this!

I have done several hours worth of research on this tonight alone, and if the past two years of this model alone have had these types of problems, and WORSE!, and have been recalled, why haven't THIS year's model as well?! AND Chrysler is saying that these issues that we've been experiencing, and I quote (from other consumers), "Aren't Manufacturer's Defects" ??!! Really?! What has to happen before they do something about it?! Heaven forbid, someone lose their life?!

I read a thread earlier this evening where a mother and her toddler (2yr old) got out of the car seconds before a fire broke out under the hood causing $5000 worth of damage+ to the building the car was parked next to, let alone burning IT to the ground, as well as destroying the car (obviously). The fire dept came out, did an investigation, and proved it was the power steering fluid that caused the fire. Chrysler send THEIR forensics team out - ONLY took pictures - and sent her A LETTER that stated they could NOT determine what the cause was, and yet again, it was NOT a 'manufacturer's defect'?! REALLY people, REALLY?! This mother AND her baby could have been killed and Chrysler isn't going to own up to THEIR screw up?!
