Pacifica

  • 32,000 miles
We bought our 2017 Pacifica with around 30K miles on it. Shortly thereafter, the transmission would occasionally shift very hard while at a slow speed. It's hard to pinpoint, however it seems to happen between first and second gear. Sometimes it will rev like it has been thrown into neutral, then will finally hit a gear and shift hard with a jolt and loud bang. It did this a number of times so we took it to the dealership. They checked everything out and couldn't find a problem. The dealership said the transmission adapts to each person, so different drivers could cause the problem. However, my wife drives the van 99% of the time and she has the problem even if I haven't driven it in a long time. The problem cannot be reproduced as it seems to happen randomly. Our van now has approximately 50K miles on it and still has the hard shifting problem. The powertrain warranty ends at 60K miles and I'm afraid once it's out of warranty, the transmission will totally go out, costing us thousands of dollars. This same issue has been reported by many other Pacifica owners.

Like other complaints. This has been an ongoing issue with our vehicle: Driving at low speed (10mph or less) transmission does a hard shift as if it was trying to engage 2nd or 3rd shift. Car does a huge bump when the shift is engaged.

The automatic transmission seems to skip a gear or two causing the vehicle to violently jerk the occupants forward. At times, it will not accelerate past a certain point and then lurch forward. This seems to happen when accelerating in various settings.

Many other drivers complaining about same issue: 1. driving at low speed (10mph or less) transmission does a hard shift as if it was trying to engage 2nd or 3rd shift. Car does a huge bump when the shift is engaged. 2. at high speed (65mph ~) is possible to hear a rattling noise coming from left side panel / drivers side. This is very concerning for us. Already have dealer check the vehicle but they always say they could not reproduce the issue. This is happening since the very first recall for this car. Before the first recall, no issue.

  • 54,200 miles
At 10mph decelerating to stop light. Engine shutoff. On restart error message appeared _service shifter. No lights on shifter designating gear in use was able to return to Chrysler service. Replacing shifter. Previously there have been instances when doors opened while car was at 30 mph. That was corrected with new locking computer. Several times the transmission would not shift into drive when car was started. Ignition had to be switched off then on a couple of times before the shifter would work properly. The parking brake would not disengage when car started and brake control button was presseed. Ignition had to be cycled couple of times. Not shifting into drive and failure to disengage brake occurred together frequently but not every time on downhill roads in cruise control at 45 to 55 mph, transmission down shifts so RPM would exceed 3000 and did not immediately upshift when road became flat. RPM would remain above 3000 for several seconds then return to 1500 RPM. This is a very recent new action. There a disturbing thunk sound and hard jerk when transmission shifts under load at approximately 40 to 50 mph

We have taken our 2017 Chrysler Pacifica to the dealer twice for a continuous issue of hard shifting mostly in 1st & 2nd gears. We have been jolting and have had the vehicle completely shut off on us.I was going about 12 mph. On Monday, Jan. 13, 2020 my 3.5 yo daughter and I were on a slight hill and the car seized up and lost all function. I slide (I was on a dirt road with some snow) into a ditch and looked out the window to see a large amount of red fluid on the ground. When I exited the vehicle I noticed the distinct smell of transmission fluid. My daughter and I were stuck for hours dealing with this situation. I feel very unsafe in this van. I am concerned if they try to "fix" the problem I will be in the same situation again.

problem #237

Pacifica

  • 60,000 miles
When making a slow turn (15 mph) the transmission first lurched then banged into next gear. The front wheels slipped and lost traction sending the car out of the pavement. I was able to regain control. Then when merging into the highway the transmission failed to reach higher gears leaving us running at just 30 mph and almost being rear ended several times just then the engine light came on. It is the 3rd time this transmission issue has happened. Chrysler replaced the transmission body valve the first time, the second time the whole transmission was replaced both times it took about 30 days to perform the repair.

Has a hard shift when switching gear. Feels like you have been rear ended. I took it to the dealer to get fixed, they told me it was a software update only...this hasn't fixed the issue. Now it shifts hard and is slipping constantly anytime the vehicle reaches above 30mph. The hard shifts cause whiplash to children and adults in the vehicle.

Pacifica

  • 43,300 miles
Transmission intermittently jerks violently when accelerating from around 10-20 mph. This happens most often when we slow down to make a turn and are not coming to a full stop. So when we begin to accelerate after the turn, the van loses all forward momentum and feels like it's in neutral for about 2 seconds and then suddenly lunges forward throwing our heads back into the headrest pretty hard. We've been extremely close to being rear ended twice the past month. This transmission issue has happened roughly 25 times since we bought the van in Oct. 2019.

Pacifica

  • 85,000 miles
While driving approximately 65mph on the highway, all of the lights on the dash came on and the car started to slow down even though I had the cruise control set. I tried to press the accelerator and the car would not speed up. I pulled over and turned the dial to park but the P did not light up. While in park the car was jerking forward and I could not set the parking brake. I turned it off at that point and tried to turn it back on to solve the problem. The problem has not yet been solved.

The van will sporadically not respond to acceleration between 15-20 mph and will suddenly jerk rather vigorously. It feels very unsafe especially when rear traffic is fast approaching. I have read countless complaints of this same exact issue with this van in various different forums and websites. Owners contacting Chrysler and dealerships with no positive outcome. We justly need an investigation.

Dec 222019

Pacifica

  • 46,000 miles
There has been more than one occasion where my car would shift from drive to neutral or even stalls completely. There have been times where decelerates on its on and when it locks up from the parking gear while trying to shift to drive. Most recent occurrance of this was Sunday, December 22, 2019. Acceleration from a stopped position always feels like I was rear-ended everytime. I have had multiple safety recalls and the 2 times I took it back to the dealer for fixing, I reported this concern. Dealership reported finding no issue as reported. I have received of yet another recall in 2018 but have not had a chance to take it in. I fear for the safety of my children and I as this is the only vehicle I have. But these defects that dealership reports as "finding no issue" is not fair. Its a death trap. These stops, stalls, deceleration and accelerations that started in 2017 and continues thru today is presenting a severe danger hazard and I need help.

Pacifica

  • 32,000 miles
2017 Chrysler Pacifica, 33'400 miles- hesitation after placed into/ shifting gears from a stopped position, 5-10 seconds until the car jerks into gear from release of break pedal to engaging in selected gear. Heated steering wheel feature only works intermittently, whether selected from settings with start or manually selected, all controls from steering wheel go out periodically after the vehicle has been in motion, will not work at all, including radio controls, cruise control button, U-connect button, vr button- not even the illumination of the controls works when this happens. Usually after the car has been in motion for at least 10 minutes. Has happened several times, but comes back on at random intervals while driving. Has only happened on short trips. Unknown cause. Purchased vehicle used with 20K on it May 30,2019.
