I bought this Pacifica with less than 15k miles on it in August 2017. A few weeks later, on start up, it made a rattle noise. Took it to dealer. They told me it was normal operating noise. A few weeks later, when pressing on the gas peddle between 35-45 MPH it was making a shutter or rattle noise initially. Took it to dealership, but they couldn't duplicate it, no codes. Opened a case with Chrysler. Had to go to Chrysler in Salisbury. They were able to duplicate it but told me it was normal. A few weeks later, the start up noise is worse, the noise it makes pressing the gas pedal in is worse and no longer just between 35-45 mph so I take it back again to the dealer. Same thing, no codes, and they can't duplicate it because they drive it up the road and back, but they don't seem to take the time to diagnose it.

I've been to the dealership multiple times. Now the vehicle is downshifting hard. Loud clunk and it slams into gear it feels like. So I take it back to the dealer and the service advisor says "You're back in here again with the same problems, you haven't gotten rid of that thing yet?" Ugh no. I expect the "experts" to take the time to properly diagnose these issues. It feels unsafe to drive, and the noise it makes when I press on the gas sounds like something is going to break any second. It is an awful metal clanking sound. Then he tried to tell me the downshifting hard in cruise control was normal. I said it doesn't just do it on cruise control. Mostly dominant at 35-40 mph but it has done it at less than 10 mph and in the 50-60 mph range. He basically admitted these are junk and they know it and they aren't going to diagnose it. Just update the software and tell me they can't duplicate the problems. I opened another case with Chrysler but I'm doubtful they will do anything. Before, Chrysler offered to give me a discount to trade it in and get something else but the dealer couldn't make it work with the monthly payments. So they are definitely aware that these are problems and clearly don't want to do anything about it.

My Pacifica 2017 had issues with transmission, with hard shifting when my vehicle was at 57,000 miles. Only after couple time visiting to the dealer they said that they need to replace the transmission and they replaced it - and then after six months when my vehicle reach 71,000 the same problem appeared and I went back to dealer for same issue and this time they said they can’t do anything because the warranty already expired when it was at 60,000 even with the new transmission and not sure if they replaced the transmission or they just did some thing to pass the warranty coverage.

And it’s seems I’m not the only who have this problem.

The transmission makes a loud clunking sound when shifting at low speeds. Feels like someone has run into the back of the car. It's very alarming and dangerous. First started at around 17,000 miles. Since then we've had it in over 6 times. They've reset the computer program twice and also replaced some valves. Every time we bring it in they act like they've never seen this before. When I show them the numerous complaints online, they tell me you can't trust what you see online!

If only Chrysler would quit avoiding the issue and do something about it. This is no way to treat their customers. I'm finally dealing with Chrysler's complaint department and have a case number. We'll see what happens. Too bad because we enjoy the vehicle, but can't keep driving it with these problems.

Ever since we rolled the van brand-new off of the lot, we've had several instances of the van jerking and kicking when accelerating. Sometimes, it jerks so much that we think someone has rear-ended us. We've taken the vehicle in, and since "they can't duplicate" the problem, they can't fix it. Now, I've had the van for 4 years. I recently had to take the van in because the A/C is broken. The motor mounts are also apparently bad. Several thousands of dollars to fix these issues, not counting the fact that it still jerks and makes weird noises when accelerating.

I have had it with this van. I am now debating whether to cut my losses and trade it in on something else. Between the several recalls, a broken break booster system at 45000 miles ($630 no warranty coverage), and now the A/C and motor mount issues, and the undiagnosed jerking - I'm over it. We purchased a new vehicle because we figured doing so would give us something more stable and reliable for many years. We have owned Hondas, Chevys, and Fords that have both kept us out of the shop way more than this van, and they were much older.

Purchased my dream car three years ago. 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. My husband and I thought we had our retirement vehicle, to drive from state to state. Hard shifting problems have prevented that. I barely want to drive it around town. It is scary when you pull off and the car jerks so hard it feels like the engine fell out. Several trips to the dealership has resulted in only frustration.

The dealership says that it is nothing they can do about it, so does that mean we are stuck with a $30,000 lemon? This makes no sense! I feel as though it is a computer issue. We used to get monthly emails to give us a maintenance check. All of a sudden that has stopped. I need help with this problem, before something bad happens. Do not buy this car!!!!!

My 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Touring has been hard shifting for the past few months. It will slam into gear and it feels like we have been rear ended. It will also rev up (but not move) and them shoot forward. I was told there is not error code so it cannot be fixed. This is extremely dangerous because I have come close to rear ending the car in front of me multiple times. Also when I go to turn and it stops accelerating... I risk getting hit by oncoming traffic. I just looked at my vin number and there are no active recalls. I do not see how this is not a recall with everyone else having the same issue?! I also do not understand how you can see it doing it but because there isn't an error code.. you can't fix it.

FYI, I have not tried this on the Pacifica yet. This idea came from a recent experience with another car, but I think it may be worth trying if other solutions have not worked or before trying more expensive ones. Basically, my other car was running fine but was due for a scheduled transmission fluid change. I took it to an independent mechanic. When I got it back, he voluntarily admitted they did not have the specific recommended fluid type for my car, so they put in what they had which is pretty close to the manufacturer specifications.

When I drove home, I immediately noticed slipping (500 rpm jump) right before a shift and then slam abruptly into the next gear. When coming to a stop, the car would keep pulling as if the transmission was locked up. After coming to a full stop, I would have to rev the engine a couple times to get the transmission to go into gear. I took it back immediately and complained but they couldn't do anything since they did not have the right transmission fluid.

I took it to the dealer to have the transmission flushed and refilled. The dealer told me the fluid in there was low grade almost like water instead of oil. After getting the right fluid, the transmission worked perfectly. So I suspect Chrysler either used low grade transmission fluid at the factory or got a bad batch because other Chrysler vehicles have been having the same problem, but other brands that use the same transmission have not been having problems. Just a theory.

I have had my Pacifica to the shop on numerous occasions for the hard shifting, however the problem is intermittent and naturally did not happen when the technician was driving so I was sent on my way. Eventually, the problem worsened and was able to witnessed by a technician, they kept my vehicle for 3 days and told me the problem was fixed.

Well, here we are approximately 2 years later and having the exact same issue. Talked to the dealership and was told that a new software upgrade was expected between Oct. and Dec. of 2020. I brought my vehicle to the dealership in December and was sent on my way again because the car did not have the issue while the technician was in it. This really pisses me off as this is a known problem with this vehicle and could have been taken in for the software upgrade. I would love to file a lemon law suit.

Like others on this thread have mentioned, I experienced the transmission dropping/slipping/lurching at low speeds, usually under 25 mph. This had been happening for 9 months or more, but so intermittently and randomly at first that I wrote it off as a fluke or that my foot must've slipped off the pedal or perhaps I didn't give it enough gas and the transmission didn't catch or something else wonky — user error, you know? It would usually happen as I was accelerating from a stop at a red light, or accelerating up the slight incline into my neighborhood. It's definitely NOT user error.

I took it to my Chrysler dealer on July 13, 2020 and reported the issue for the first time. Fortunately, the transmission lurched as the service advisor drove my car out of the bay after I checked in, so it is on my record that the issue is REAL! Chrysler kept the car for two days, mostly running software checks. They found two updates for the Transmission Control Module and completed them, then returned the car to me. So far so good, but I've only been driving it for a day. We're still well within the 60,000 powertrain warranty (15k miles and 2 years left before we're out of it) but I'm going to document every little detail about when it happens, IF it happens again. I will update here as a record.

We bought a brand new 2017 Pacifica with like 25 miles on it. After driving the van for about a month, I noticed it would shift extremely hard. I just sort of toss it aside as if my foot slipped off the pedal. The next time it happened, my children and I were all in the van going from a stopped position, I gave it a little gas and once it reached 17MPH, the van jerked so hard I thought we were rear-ended. My daughter yelled out of fear because the bang was so loud and my other 2 kids were pretty shaken up. We pulled in to a parking lot only to learn we were NOT rear-ended. After our nerves settled down, I drove again. To only have it happen 3 more times. At the time, I had an infant. Imagine what this could have done to her neck/spine. Not knowing the actual cause until recently, just infuriates me. And infuriates me even more because one of us could have been hurt.

I called and had the dealership take a look at it. Of course, it was a reprogramming issue. That the vans transmission needs to adapt to the way I drive. After taking it in, a few days later, BANG, it did it again. Called the dealership, told me it takes 30-60 days before the transmission will adapt to how I drive. If after 60 days, there are still issues, call them back. So guess what? Yup, you guessed it. Called them back - wasted yet 5 more trips to be told every thing is fine with the van and no errors coming up. Well, finally after having a constant headache for a week, I wonder if this isn't whiplash related to the transmission issues. When the transmission jerks so hard, you literally are thrown forward.

The vehicle also seems like it studders some after it shifts hard and doesnt want to move when the gas pedel is pushed. A VERY dangerous vehicle to own!

Does not matter who is driving the vehicle, it happens. I am not genius, but I never heard of a transmission adapting to the way a person drives. The transmission should work properly whoever is behind the wheel

We called Chrysler only to be told there was nothing they could do. Its on the dealership to provide them with transmission issues and if they don't, they are not made aware of any issues existing. I call BS on that lie too. I think Chrysler has gotten A LOT of phone calls regarding this issue. They just dont want to admit their faults.

So here we are 18 months in, several trips to the dealership, same issue not resolved and the hard shifting has happened around 100+ times. I decided to finally do some of my own research. After getting NO WHERE with the dealership and Chrysler, I contacted the Highway Safety for Vehicles and they referred us to the National Center for Dispute Settlement. Within 4 days, we had a date and paperwork for an arbitration hearing against the dealership and Chrysler which happens to be July 22 2019.

So if you are having issues, PLEASE contact the NCDS and file a complaint. The more we all gather together and complain, the more likely Chrysler will finally handle this issue BEFORE any deaths or serious injuries occur.

Try this: 1) turn the start switch to on, but do not start the car. All trouble lights are on and the fans in the heating and cooling systems are on if that was the position they were left in. 2) push the gas pedal right to the floor and hold it there for 10 seconds. 3) turn the start switch to off with your foot still on the gas pedal. 4) release the gas pedal, but do not put your foot on the brake pedal 5) wait for 2 minutes before starting your car. Apparently the electronics are being reset.

Start your van and go for a drive. Do not accelerate too quickly, you just want the van to shift through a few gears to learn the basic shift points. You may want to put it in reverse a few times also. Afterwards just drive normally. It works every time for me. My transmission shifts smoothly and downshifts quickly. I learned this from a Mercedes forum. BMW also has the same problem. Google how to reset transmission adaptations and many sites come up.

We bought our Chrysler Pacifica in April 2017 new. We love the vehicle. We've been on 2 long summer road trips. Last year it we noticed it started to shift very hard starting from a stop or at lower speeds. The first few times it happened we thought we got rear ended. It's very sporadic. My wife is starting to feel unsafe while driving it.

We took it into the dealer and they give the standard, "we can't duplicate the problem." It's like with mechanics now, if they can't get a specific code they are clueless what to do.

We will be out of our 36K warranty here before the end of the year. I'm worried the transmission will go out after the warranty has expired. Has anyone else been able to find out what the problem is?

I'm going to try taking it again when I take it in for another recall issue. We love this vehicle. It's a shame Chrysler has so many recalls. This has been the only issue we've had with this vehicle. I'm thinking of contacting Chrysler. I'll be beyond upset if this issue causes an accident or worse injury or loss of life to my family or others.

On 1/8/19, my car stalled while turning left at an intersection. Thankfully, it started up quickly, but that was the start of the nightmare of this car. Since then, it has continued to hard shift (at least a few times a week) and sometimes nearly stalls while driving.

I have taken it to the dealership 6 times now and they claim they can't replicate the issue. They finally installed a data recorder and it is back there now so they can see if they can find the issue. I have a case open with Chrysler as well, but am not sure if that is making any difference.

This is not the only issue I've had with the car and it has been in the shop 3 months of the 24 months I've owned it. It is a safety hazard and I am just bracing myself for an accident and praying that my child is not in the car when it does inevitably happen.

I am at a loss on what to do. This has become a part time job trying to get this resolved.

I bought a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Sept. 2016. Went across country and came back to a CLUNKING in the transmission when I am traveling at a slow speed. Took it to Chrysler they said it's a computer issue. Said they cannot replicate the problem.

Took it to ANOTHER Chrysler dealer with same complaint again was told they cannot replicate the issue and to just ACCEPT that's how the van runs. REALLY a BRAND NEW $36,000 car and I'm just supposed to ACCEPT IT.

I've almost been hit 3 different times when making a turn at a slow speed and the van stops then JERKS and takes off.

I DON'T recommend this vehicle and I am looking for a lemon law attorney to see if there is still time for me to sue Chrysler. My van now has 39,000 and the problem is worse than ever!!!

Since I took it in several different times before the 36,000 warranty is it still covered since it was fixed correctly?
