While driving back from vacation with the family the van's gas engine suddenly stalled out and a warning to pull over and place the car in park was displayed on the dashboard. Once I coasted to the side of the road and put the van in park the message "Service Charging System" appeared on the dash and the car would not restart.
The car was towed to the nearest Chrysler dealer where it was checked. The mechanic found that the Power Inverter Module of the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. They had to order the part and found out it was currently unavailable. It took 2 months for the part to be delivered, once delivered the van was "fixed" but after a full charge threw another error about the battery temp.
The van then had to spend another week in the shop waiting for a battery temp sensor to be delivered. Once received the mechanic fixed it.
I have had the car back for a week now with no further incident, but given the lack of warning before loss of motive power I am hesitant to take it on anymore long trips.
