After stopping and parking car, it was a completely dead sound when I tried to start it again. This has happened twice so far in a month. I jacked up the car on drivers side, just let down the jack; and it started both times. The locks don't work and the windows can only be controlled by the driver. Checked all fuses but the bottom line is this car has electrical problems.

The dash, radio, & cd player lights flash off and on intermittently. This occurs on random occasions, but seems to happen more often in wet weather. It also happens when operating the turn signal. The lights will dim low and will not return to a "normal" brightness until you adjust the turn signal arm. Another alarming issue is on occasion, smoke will appear from the steering column when turning on the lights. The other electrical problem is when turning a corner and accelerating after a stop, the cd player hesitates, or skips as if the power has been switched off. The suspension problem is the noise of metal and banging in the suspension. We had a very dangerous incident happen while on a trip when the upper drivers side control arm disintegrated while driving at highway speed (65 mph). I fought to control the car and managed to get it off the highway to the shoulder of the road. There was no warning or indication that a problem was about to occur. We nearly died. The repair was expensive, and now it appears a similar problem may be occurring on the right side.

2001 Chrysler Sebring turns off while driving - the exact same problem as the hundreds of thousands of Chrysler recalled last year. Everyone wants to try a body control module, fuel pump, new crank shaft but the problem keeps occurring - perhaps because they were not aware of this recall/problem as not even my local Chrysler dealership knew. This has happened to me frequently over the past 1.5-2 years or so, it comes and goes. I was rear ended once but it was light enough (thank god) that it did not cause any damage. Extremely dangerous. Almost a quarter of a million Chrysler vehicles were recalled last year for this problem. As of right now, I believe just van/crossover models - why not all models with this same problem? please leave your complaints on the message boards alone and bring them to NHTSA so that Chrysler can be held accountable for these issues.

The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph and the air bag warning indicator began to illuminate. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. In addition, the cruise control and horn failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failure was due to a defective clock spring and could result in the air bags not properly deploying. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. There was a technical service bulletin, item number 082700, pertaining to the air bag failure. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000.

Dashboard cluster lights work intermittently and other electrical problems. Talked to a auto electric specialist who told me this is a known problem and has had several customers with same problem. The dealership must repair the problem because they are the only ones with the equipment to fix it and the dealers are charging over $1,500 to fix. With so many people having the same problem it seems like it should be on the recall list. It certainly is a safety problem.

2001 Chrysler sebring lxi no horn, no cruise control, and air bag deactivated (light on) all three of these issues are due to a defective clock spring part# 4649092ac by Chrysler Corp. They had this same issue with their late 90's to early 2000 mini van's. this is a real threat to public safety, and there need to be action taken; do to the fact there are thousands of these clock springs (4649092ac) on the road. Do to the cost of this repair (check alldata auto repair guide), a lot of people will opt out of doing this repair.

1. normal use of fan blower with A/C or heater in a 2001 Chrysler Sebring sedan lxi. 2. blower becomes inoperative intermittently at all speeds with either A/C or heater on. The intermittent part of the problem has been occurring since my wife bought the car new. Fan blower motor was replaced twice, blower resistor block was replaced three times. In troubleshooting the problem, I found that the contacts of the power wire from the blower fan to the blower resistor at the resistor electrical connector developed a high resistance thus causing the contacts to overheat. The contacts overheated to the point of melting both sides the connector's plastic together. In order to replace the resistor, I had to break the plastic of the resistor connector in order to remove it. Further examination revealed the presence of a smoke trail coming from the pin 1 (power wire) side of the connector. Several days before, I thought I detected the odor of a burning electrical component. If the contact had not changed, thus lowering the resistance, a fire would definitely result. The melted plastic of the connector ends leads me to say that a fire did occur. The resistance was high enough to melt the plastic, but not blow the 30 amp fuse. 3. the electrical connector blower resistor was cut off. Since there are no replacement connectors available, I used insulated female "spade" quick disconnect terminals crimped to each wire to connect the blower resistor. A small dab of rtv silicon was applied to each terminal to help lock them in place. Before reinstalling a new blower resistor, I enlarged the hole to the air duct where the resistor mounts into. The original hole cut out from the factory was too small for the resistor to easily fit into. This I feel contributes to the problem. I have kept the old parts as evidence.

Bought used in 2007 Sebring 2001 at 87K miles. At round 95K, while pulling out of parking space, heard cracking noise in steering wheel..resulting in no horn, air bag light cont illuminated so can't tell if there's a problem, and no cruise control. Took car to private dealer and diagnosed clock spring, but Chrysler says its not under recall protection any longer!!! crazy, I know! also, since purchase have many probs with electrical dash probs ie flashing on/dimming and radio just turning off...also not covered! and had strange humming noise since purchase while driving...finally found out what it was and had to replace both front hubs. All of these safety issues seem to be a continuing prob with other drivers as per the complaints I've read here at least as far back as I read (thru 2006). Why is Chrysler not being made to rectify at least the air bag (clock spring) issue they already admitted to"??" really kind of the same thing with the elect issues too, but I kind of understand poss issues with that after so many miles. Would really like help/advice on how to make Chrysler take responsibility for that expensive clockspring/air bad issue.

The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. Whenever the contact comes to a complete stop, the vehicle will suddenly shut off. Occasionally, the vehicle does not immediately restart. He also noticed that the vehicle would suddenly stall while accelerating past 60 mph. In addition, the radio and instrument panel lights stop working whenever the check engine indicator illuminates. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 82,000. Updated 11/28/08 the consumer believed the camshaft sensor was rubbing the wiring causing it to heat the wiring under the protective shield and slowly grounding out the electrical system. Updated 12/02/08.

I purchase my car in 2001 brand new. Shortly after I started to notice that when I get in my car in the morning time or at night ( whenever I use the lights) it would flash from bright to dim I took it to stockburger so they could look at it but it wasn't flickering then so they couldn't do anything. And it's still doing the same thing there is this noise in the engine like a ticking sound when I start the car I took to midas for them to check it out but they said the noise was normal it doesn't sound normal. The window on the driver side doesn't always go up when its let down it stays stuck for a while then it goes up. I did have a radio problem stockburger couldn't really find the problem so they just replace the whole thing. When I drive the car the driver door constantly comes open.

After it rained, water collected in a puddle on the back interior floorboard. The dealer previously suspected the water came from the door seals and replaced them, however the leak resurfaced and it did not come from door seals. Consumer believed the leak came from the chassis. Other problems are as followed: Cd player malfunctioned, A/C unit failed and was repaired two times, the door panel was replaced, the steering column was replaced/squealed when turned/repair kit was installed/clockspring was replaced, the vehicle wouldn't start, there were electrical problems, a loud sound had come from the brakes, the window buttons were loose at the switch, and the engine cranked but did not start and was found to be flooded.
