The 2001 Chrysler Sebring is the worst car I ever bought. The oil light coming on was a major complaint until I saw this website and found other people having problems. It started when my heater hose blew out during Hurricane Katrina back in 2005. I have numerous problems with this car (to many to list and most of the problems Ive experienced have already been listed here). I had the car looked at, run on the computer, torn apart, cleaned, then exorcised by my parish priest (Im not kidding). I recently got rid of the car and moved on to a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SLE.

It feels like throwing money in the garbage. No results. I began to feel insecure, car will come to a complete stop while driving even on freeway. Some say it's computer, fixed problem comes right back, oil changes, alternator change..nothing works. My daughter begins to drive. I would not let her drive this car. I need a reliable car. The dealer should recall these cars and really look into this problem. It is not to their best interest to put this unreliable car on the road...Chrysler should reimburse at least up to a certain amount toward the purchase of another more reliable vehicle. It is not to Chrysler's benefit to keep getting these complaints about the Chrysler Sebring.

To start with, we bought this car brand new in 2001. The dealership has done all the oil changes on-time ever since then. This started back in July 07 at 50k+ miles. Oil light came on at idle. They replaced oil sensor. Early Oct 07 the oil light started coming on again. Friends told us of the sludge problem and I started checking up on it. Took the car back in for an engine flush and oil change, even though only at 2,500 miles since the last change. They didn't deny there was an oil sludge problem with the 2.7L engines, but said it was probably an oil sensor problem. Then they realized they already changed that out once. They proceeded to flush the engine twice and cleaned the Oil sensor. Two days later, the oil light is flickering on and off again at low idle. I fear the worst! I would change out the oil with full synthetic, but to be honest, they'd find a way to blame engine failure on me for doing that. To this point, no one but the dealership has ever touched this car. It has always had oil changes every 3k miles or less. There is no way they can pin this on anything but poor design!

I just recently bought my '01 Sebring 4 door sedan LXi. When my wife went to look at the car (I'm in Iraq so I couldn't look at it) the only problem she noticed was the oil light coming on in congested traffic in downtown Honolulu. So every time she would come to a stop light/sign the oil light would come on. She told me about the problem and I told her to take it to the dealership to have a diagnostic ran and to see what codes would come up. Well the dealership said it would be like $100 to run a diagnostic so she decided to take it somewhere else. The couple we bought the car from said that the light has came on like that for the whole time they owned the car and was not a problem, but to me... being a military vehicle mechanic myself, was somewhat concerned. I told her to have the oil pressure sensor replaced, which was done and the light went off. Well after that, we decided to buy the vehicle. The next day when my wife and the lady selling the car went to the DMV to transfer the title and give the lady the money, my wife was driving home and the light came back on. I have now done some research and am noticing a recurring problem with this 2.7L and seeing the same problems over and over. If anyone has any idea what the cause to this oil light could be, I would appreciate it. I don't want to keep the car only to have the engine seize at 50,000 miles. I thought I was getting a hell of a deal by buying this car for a couple thousand under blue book with only 33,000 miles on it, only to find out these engines are crap. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get this oil light off, and what the cause to this annoying problem is? I've been seeing a lot of people concerned with the oil pressure and that, but not seeing a lot of corrective actions for the problems. Let me know if you have any ideas or if you know what the cause of the problem is before this engine decides to dump on me. Thanks

i had a 2001 sebring convertible with 50,000 miles, i love that car. i noticed tha the oil light was flickering so i brought it to the 5 star chrysler dealer (i have an extended warranty). they said it was leaking transmission lines, so that was 420$ (of course not covered under warranty) then a week later my car didnt start, i got it towed again and they replaced the starter, that was 50$, the rest was covered under the warranty then 2 days later my car didnt start again

so we tried to jump it but it just made a clicking sound, so i got towed again,, now they said it was dirty battery cables and the charge was 120$ and i also had the oil changed because i was due.

thinking all is well now i was driving about 10 mi and my oil light when on when i braked. this is when i went online and discovered what a bad engine that car had. i went out the next day and tuned it in the honda dealer new how bad those cars are are . thank you for sharing your stories it really saved me;i called the 5 star dealer and voiced my opinion on such a bad product and taking a good customers to the cleaners. i am going to call the newspaper and see what i can do, since they advertise a 5 star dealership, what a joke. i now have a honda crv, so much for buy american, my father told me 30 years ago not to buy a chrysler, he was RIGHT.
