First, the car rear end went out. Essentially, as previous poster mentioned it is a clunking noise that is heard when going over any significant bump (even small). The car is unable to be driven in this condition. Second, this problem appears to be frequent because we tried to resolve the issue to find out that the part is on back order until SEPTEMBER!!!! Keep in mind of the date of this complaint, it is near the end of August. When speaking to numerous service departments the part was made out of aluminum and should be made of steel to support the suspension. Both parts need to be replaced (right and left side). Due to the back order issue we will not be purchasing another Chrysler product. It is bad enough that the repair is over $500 due to poor engineering but that customers have to wait months to have the car fixed.

Today the right rear spring seat aluminum casting failed allowing the shock absorber to come loose. So we checked the left side and that side was cracked too. This piece is attached to the body in the fender. there had been a squeak in the rear of the car since new. no wreck, 52000 miles, no rust of any kind, duh dealer maintained, car is in as new condition. We wonder if it wasn't dropped off the car carrier, and fortunately for them, it landed on its wheels.

right rear spring seat aluminum casting cracked some time ago, and today it basically failed. The macpherson strut/shock absorber is attached to this and it finally gave way, causing a clunking noise in addition to the undetermined squeaking probably due to the crack, which had been especially noticeable in cold weather, since the thing was virtually new. I will be adding a separate complaint about the left rear casting, which is also cracked. It is cracked in a different location, very near to the end of the coils on the spring. This car/thing has never been in an accident, or loaded heavy, and has 52000 one owner miles and could be cleaned up to as new appearance. The spring seat does show evidence of corrosion, but I do not think it cracked recently, as there is corrosion in the crack too.

I am in the middle of fixing this myself, the parts will cost aprox.$230 (struts and top brackets)if I was paying for labour would have cost a lot, being a fairly time consuming job. This is a defect .The brackets are aluminum and for some reason corrode.this car is not rusty.
