This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chrysler dealer.
I took the car in for its scheduled oil change, with a "clicking" sound going on in the engine. An engine flush and a polymer additive was added. 2 days later, trhe click exacerbated into a knock! I contacted several auto repair facilities and I contacted Chrysler Corporation (Phone number listed in the owner's manual). I had the vehicle towed to a local Chrysler dealer. Chrysler has offered to replace the existing engine with a new one. Several factors include previously having owned other Chrysler products, a consistent maintenance schedule (oil changes), and this current vehicle just barely out of the warranty period. Chrysler wants a $4800+ co-pay to do this! I have a couple of local mechanics offering to put a used engine in the car for about a total of $2600-$3200. Being a full time medical school student, however, I do not work nor can I afford any of these options at this time. Still making payments to the bank on this car too! The rental car is costing me almost $200 a week in the meantime! If anyone knows how I can join in on some of the class action lawsuits against Chrysler, please let me know ASAP! email is bscottdavis100@gmaiol.com

I bought my 2004 chrysler sebring beacuse I always wanted one. If I had known then what I know now I would have bought any other car! In 2006, I was driving uphil when the engine made an awful noise and the check engine light came on. At that point, I turned around to go home but could not drive over 40mph. The car had to be towed to a local dealer who charged me about 400 bucks to fix something (right now I can't even remember what it was). The car ran great after that, until summer last year when I had the oil changed. About 2 months after the oil was changed, the oil light came on. I checked the manual and that particular light supposedly meant low oil pressure. So I took the car back to the service station and explained the problem. They checked it for me and said it was empty of oil (it was not empty of oil, I did check it myself before I took it in). They wanted to charge me 60 bucks to do an engine check to find out where it was leaking from. I said no thanks. To this day, the oil light is still on. In October my car was inspected; required new front brakes, the back brakes were 'loose' and some other maintenance issues. The guy inspecting asked me how long the oil light had been on. I told him and he said they checked everything and couldn't find a reason for the oil light. He suggested I take it to the dealer because it might have something to do with the powertrain.
Fast forward to a week before Christmas, I went outside and ALL 4 of my tires were flat. ALL freaking four of them. I managed to get them all pumped up and they seemed good for about a week. Then while driving home, the back left tire blew out, so had to get a new one.
NOW, my car is doing this weird ticking thing while idling. I put my car in reverse, back up, shift to drive, step on the gas and the stupid car keeps going in reverse!!! I shift to park, back to drive...step on the gas and reverse! I let it sit a minute, shift to park and back to drive, only to have the car drift forward when I step on the gas. The engine sounds like it's revving itself up to take off, but never goes anywhere. It takes about 5-10 minutes of shifting from park to drive and back again before the car seems to kick into gear and lurches forward. Yesterday and today I have found that if I punch the gas pedal with all my strenght it kicks it into gear faster.
I hate my car

This only occured after having the oil changed, then having the oil light come on, taking the car back to the service station to have them tell me it was empty of oil and there was a leak. The car was actually not empty of oil, because I checked it. The oil light remains on many months later.

The engine is making noise at idle and during acceleration. Not sure what the ticking problem is, I had someone replace the alternator idler that I purchased from Chrysler and the alternator belt because it was wobbling. They were telling me the problem was one of the balance shafts and I am not sure. The more I step on the gas the more noise the engine makes, from what I can tell I think its a cam that is bad. And the noise is periodic. Wonder which of the cams it is on the DOHC. From this article http://www.justanswer.com/questions/jgn9-1998-dodge-stratus-2-4-l-4cyl I am guessing this is the problem.
Update from Jul 18, 2009: I took the car into Sterling Heights Dodge since my workplace was closed for 2 week plant shutdown. I work at Chryler as well :) Glad I did it cost me a wopping 100 dollars and 2 days time. The problem was a bad flywheel. I could not figure it out for the life of me. Im glad the old guy working on it with the "rookie" was there to find it.
