There is no excuse for a modern car engine to brake a rod or piston that has been maintained well and not damaged.

Just wondering why a rod would be knocking when it's only 1 quart low on oil.

I took the car in for its scheduled oil change, with a "clicking" sound going on in the engine. An engine flush and a polymer additive was added. 2 days later, the click exacerbated into a knock! I contacted several auto repair facilities and I contacted Chrysler Corporation (Phone number listed in the owner's manual). I had the vehicle towed to a local Chrysler dealer. Chrysler has offered to replace the existing engine with a new one. Several factors include previously having owned other Chrysler products, a consistent maintenance schedule (oil changes), and this current vehicle just barely out of the warranty period. Chrysler wants a $4800+ co-pay to do this! I have a couple of local mechanics offering to put a used engine in the car for about a total of $2600-$3200. Being a full time medical school student, however, I do not work nor can I afford any of these options at this time. Still making payments to the bank on this car too! The rental car is costing me almost $200 a week in the meantime! If anyone knows how I can join in on some of the class action lawsuits against Chrysler, please let me know ASAP! email is bscottdavis100@gmail.com

I bought my car on January 17th of 2006. Needed a car as soon as possible, because I am a working mom of 3. 2 days after I got my car, smoke came from the hood and I barely got it to the garage to be checked. After a couple of days I was told that the spark plugs had blown and that it was fixed and there would be no more problems. Now, my car is sitting in my driveway, because it makes a horrible noise and is un-drivable. When calling the Dealership that sold it to me, and asking what the warranty on the engine was, they responded to me by telling me to get in contact with the manufacturer. Which I did. I was told by them that my engine had a 7yr 70,000 mile guarantee. When I asked if they could send me this information, I got a post card a few days later stating that the warranty was up on the car and I had only 2 days to repair it. This could not be done with in this time frame. So I called the dealership again and they sent my call to the service department. This went real well. I was told that they could not tell what they were going to cover or could cover with warranty unless I had it towed so they can do a diagnostic to see what was wrong. Then they would tell me how much I would have to pay. I was also told to look for paperwork that stated I had the 7yr/ 70,00 mile guarantee. I have looked, and I don't seem to be able to find my paper work. Well a tow is @ least $75 and then I would have it brought up, they would give me another screwing on paying for something that should be covered to begin with, and I would have to have it towed back home, because I can't pay for the cost of repair. And in the meantime, I get to drive around in a borrowed car until I come up with the money for a car I still owe $9,050 on and haven't been able to drive for months. My next door neighbor, who used to work for Darlings took a look and told me that it is either the bearings, or a push rod. But it was definitely an engine problem and that someone should come good for it. A search was done on my car and had found out it has been in a shop 11 times. I only took it in twice within 2 weeks that I had bought it. I had to pay $25.00 to get a report and am still waiting for that. I am so frustrated, pissed off and tired of everyone telling me I am getting the run around, because I am a girl. This is the 3rd Dodge product I have owned, I think they should stand by their product. A car should last more than 3 years. It should at least last until it is paid off. This is a 2004 Sebring that only has 58,000 miles on it. Tell me I haven't been f***ed royal.

Well, it's official. I had to buy a new engine. At 119K, I wasn't covered and the dealer blamed me for the lack of consistent oil changes. When I began to argue about it, he told me that I wasn't under warranty anymore, so it didn't matter. I did some research and found out that Chrysler has admitted the problem and will reimburse half the cost of a new engine if you own the 1997-2001 engine. However, they claim to have repaired it for 2002 and newer. I could have bought a new engine for $7000 or a used one for $4000. I chose the used. It will be paid off in 18 months and I will get rid of it. I will buy strictly Japanese now. Thanks Chrysler, I was all American, but now, no.....

Sebring lx 2.7L V6

first off, i change my oil every 3500 miles and my car has 50000 miles on it. i was in the expressway and i was using the cruise control to maintain my speed at 65 mph, went through a toll and hit the "resume" botton. suddenly the car down shifts and it goes up to 5000 rpm and it does not shif, so i hit the brake to disengage the cruise control but it does not respond, it responded after i put it in neutral, but it was too late... there was a clanging noise coming from the motor and it lost all the power. the policeman that came and the tow truck guy (that i had to call because i was not moving the car) said they thought it sounded like a broken rod. i've heard complaints about the motor stalling or reving up uncontrollably but i have not heard any complains about the cruise control not responding. this happened today so tomorrow i'm taking it to the dealership for service and for what i have read i'm in for a big surprise and a big headache... i will add tomorrow what the dealership had to say!!

PEOPLE BEWARE OF THE 2.7 ENGINE USED IN THE 2004 SEBRING.. ALL OIL CHANGES WERE ALWAYS DONE EVERY 2500 MILES.. THE OIL WAS VERY GOOD OIL... NOT A CHEAP BRAND... MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES OVER A 2 MONTH TIME TABLE.. NO ONE COULD EVER FIND WHY IT COME IT , BUT IT ALWAYS WENT OUT AFTER A SHORT TIME OF BEING ON... THIS ONLY HAPPENED A FEW TIMES, THEN NO MORE OIL PROBLEMS... STRANGE??? THE ENGINE NEVER MADE ANY ODD NOISES, OR EVER RUN HOT... THEN WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR, THE LIGHT COME ON AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A LOAD CLANGING TYPE OF NOISE... THE MOTOR WAS TURN OFF AND WE CALLED A WRECKER... MY REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME 2 RODS WERE BROKEN IN THE ENGINE... NO WARRANTY FOR THIS WORK OR PARTS.... IT COST ME 4500.00 TO FIX IT AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER AGAIN!!!! READ REVIEWS ON PROBLEMS WITH CARS BEFORE YOU BUY !!!!!!!!!!!! BEWARE OF THE 2.7 SEBRING MOTORS!!!! BIG PROBLEM ENGINES!!!!!! HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE FROM GETTING BURNED FROM THESE JUNK ENGINES!!!!!!!!!!!!
