I think it might be transmission related and the only thing I can do is tell you the story.
I started up my car to leave, backed out of the driveway and shifted into drive. When I stepped on the gas, the car continued going in reverse. I shifted to park and back to drive only to have the same thing happen again. I shifted back into park, then drive and stepped on the gas. The car then only drifted forward and the engine sounded like it was revving to take off. Again I shifted to park and back to drive, same thing - drift forward and engine revving. I let the car sit on the side of the road, shifting from park to drive and stepping on the gas only to have the engine rev. Probably after about 10 times of shifting it finally seemed to kick itself into gear and lurched forward. I then did not have any more trouble driving.
I have gone through this every day for about 2 weeks; the process of backing out of the driveway, shifting, not going anywhere, drifting and revving. Today and yesterday, I backed out of the driveway, shifted into drive and stomped down on the gas pedal. That seemed to at least kick it into gear faster than the shifting and re-shifting.
I haven't taken it to the dealer yet because I just cannot afford to fix whatever this problem could be.
