About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Since purchasing vehicle in 2006 the horn has been going off by itself.. whether driving or sitting stationary. I have had to bang on the horn pad area to get it to stop. After years of having to do this to stop the blaring horn, it now has a short.. runs down my battery but will not blow at all. I have had to pull the fuse to save my battery, however, because it will not blow, I cannot get an inspection sticker. Therefore, I have had to drive with an expired sticker since August 2016 as I cannot afford the hundreds it would cost to fix the horn on this vehicle. This is not my 1st complaint about the horn issues on this vehicle. I have also discovered that there have been numerous complaints about this horn issue on this vehicle.. however, nothing has ever been done to resolve it. Recently, a lady backed into my car in walmart parking lot, damaging the bumper and breaking the light because I had no horn to blow and warn her. This is just one serious issue with this car.. this thing had been a lemon since day one.. from the front steering shaking horribly while braking to both rear struts breaking to rain water getting inside the doors and flooding the interior and shorting out the electric windows.

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Sebring convertible. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle was unstable on the road and suddenly spun out of control. The contact crashed into a guardrail and stopped facing in the opposite direction of traffic. None of the air bags deployed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed by the insurance company. The manufacturer sent an independent investigator who stated that the air bags were not faulty based upon the speed and location of impact. The independent investigator and the manufacturer provided no specific diagnosis on why the air bags did not deploy and sent a letter with a response. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 10E059000 (suspension), 09E056000 (suspension), 04V579000 (steering), and 15V338000 (air bags). The failure mileage was not available.

Steering became hard to control. When I turned the steering wheel to the left, a noise and the front right wheel was sideways therefore unable to drive. I just missed getting T-boned...scared to death. I see 3 different recalls listed for the make and model year. Per Chrysler, per my VIN, my car was not included in the recall. I find it very interesting that what happened to me is exactly what the recall description reads.

The vehicle started making noise while turning the wheels from front corner...updated 07/21/15

The horn on the vehicle starts to randomly go off and will not stop. Horn will blow even while driving at random times. This is a safety concern as there is also a clicking noise that is emitting from underneath the airbag assembly as the horn starts to go off. I am concerned that at some point during driving the airbag may deploy at the same time as the horn is randomly going off. I have contacted Chrysler and they say they are unaware of this issue even though there are multiple complaints about this issue listed with the NHTSA and do not consider this a safety concern. Repair is quoted at $750+. this really needs to be investigated by NHTSA and Chrysler needs to be made aware of this issue and address for me and other customers who are dealing with this particular safety issue.

The horn just randomly goes off. To get it to stop I had to pull the fuse which also disconnects the air bag. After reading about the exact same problem by hundreds of sebring owners, I feel that Chrysler should replace the horn and air bag (Chrysler mechanic told me it was all one unit and to replace it would be over $700). This is a safety issue, not only for me but for others on the road.

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was started, the horn would honk and would not stop. The contact had to remove the fuse from the fuse box. Also while driving, the contact noticed a grinding noise from the passenger side when parallel parking. The dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in recall 04V579000 (steering: Linkages: Knuckle: Spindle: Arm) and the contact would be responsible for repair expenses. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 80,000.

I have 2005 Chrysler Sebring convertible, purchased in 2006, used from a local Chrysler dealer with only 9000 miles. Today, July 16, 2009. It had a warranty of 3 years or 36000 miles. The upper ball joint is rattling around, took it to the dealer they gave me a estimate of $389. This is unacceptable. The part is clearly defective. My boyfriend is a mechanic. Ball joints should go 100,000 miles before replacement. I want to file a defect complaint. Laurie treadwell

Purchased 2002 Chrysler Sebring in 2005. Car was making grinding sound a couple of months later from front passenger side tire or shock. Dealer replaced steering gear and tie rods. One month later, dealer again had to replace same parts. Four months later, while driving on interstate, entire upper ball joint came apart causing complete loss of steering. Dealer replaced upper ball joint and control arm on passenger side. Less than two years later, lower control arm and ball joints disintegrated. Dealer refused to repair or warranty.
