The contact owned a 2006 Chrysler Sebring sedan. While driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the brakes failed to respond. The vehicle accelerated independently and the steering wheel failed to turn left or right. The failure occurred without warning. The contact could not stop the vehicle and crashed into the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and later impounded. The contact sustained a neck injury, internal stomach injury, and a migraine headache due to hitting the head on the steering wheel. Medical attention was required. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that there were no open recalls. The failure mileage was 177,000.

I am joining the many other owners who's horns go off, with out warning car off or car on. At the same time the horn now seems to have stopped working entirely leaving me no way to warn other drivers that do not see me. I can confirm the costive a repair is on the $1100 range and my local Chrysler reports they do this repair 4 times per week, nationwide. This repair is out of my budget and I think Chrysler needs to recall and repair these vehicles. The horn has gone off in stationary, motion, on a city street and highway and turning. Even with the engine shut off in the wee hours of the morning. Below you ask when did this happen? at least 20 times. The horn switch indeed includes the air bags. No way to test them but I fear they are not working as this switch is bad. I hope I don't find out the hard way.

With soooo many complaints about the horn issue located in the same spot as the airbag no one has put the pieces together about hows this may be caused by the airbag issue. The horn only has major issues when the humidity is high. This is the same reason the airbags are having issues and deploying with shrapnel. Can someone fight for the consumer here there is over 70 complaints about the horn which the component is shared with the airbag. This is occurring during high humidity maybe as a warning something is wrong with the component harnessing the horn and airbag"???" or the airbag pressure is triggering the horn before the pressure builds to deploy for no reason other than humid weather.

Well it first happened at night my wife thought someone was breaking into the car I never caught what was going on until the fourth time I finally herd it it was my horn going off for 60 seconds or more and I could not get it stop it would go off at night around 12 or 2 or 3,4 in morning then it eventually it got worse started going off at all times then the horn was not usable but would still go off when it chose to. Then it started to go off when I was driving. I stopped driving the car and have since unhooked the battery. There are many complaints online of people with same issue recently I hooked the battery up to see if maybe it was ok wrong it blared right away and so I unhooked the battery again.

In the beginning, the horn would sound randomly while the car was parked and unoccupied. It would continue to sound until we adjusted the steering wheel or pushed on the horn. However, now the horn sounds randomly while driving. It doesn't stop until I am able to pull over and remove the fuse. This creates an unsafe situation with other drivers. The dealership said that it was some sort of electrical failure in the horn and airbag within the steering wheel. We replaced the fuse that controls this mechanism, but it didn't work. The horn and airbag are an integral piece, so in order to replace the horn, we have to replace the airbag. This would cost more than $800. Our easiest solution was to remove the fuse that controls the horn/ airbag. This means that I'm driving it without an airbag or horn. This is extremely unsafe for other motorists and myself. I contacted Chrysler. They stated that there was nothing they could do, because the horn does not fall under any of the warranties and there has not been a recall for this part. There are hundreds of complaints online regarding the airbag and horn! it is very unsafe and common, therefore it should be investigated for a recall. I noticed that on the NHTSA site, people are categorizing this problem as "steering, " "electrical, " or "airbag, " because there is no category for "horn." I hope that this is not keeping the NHTSA from recognizing how many people are effected. Please investigate it.

Back in January, my horn in my 2006 sebring started blowing between 9 & 11 pm for some unknown reason. It lasted for about 40 seconds. I did think much of it at the time, but it started happening nightly. Practically every night the horns will blow for about 40 to 60 seconds. It seems to happen whenever there is a temperature drop outside. But now it will going off sometimes when I start the car and sometime while I am driving down the road. I have to hit the horn to stop it while driving to get it to stop. Other drivers and pedestrians seem to panic when it goes off because it is scares the hell of you when it goes off and there doesn't seem to be any danger in the area. My neighbors are getting a little annoyed with horn going off at night. It even when off at work while parked in the parking lot during the day. Chrysler needs to address this issue, because from what I have researched on this matter shows that this is a common problem with many sebring owners. Many of them do not even know that they can report this and most likely are footing the $1000 price tag for the defect.

In March or so of 2011, while driving, all of a sudden my horn just goes off for no reason whatsover and would not stop. I took it to a local mechanic and was informed that its a factory problem with the clockspring. This part however is attached to the air bag assembly & to replace it, the entire air bag assembly must be also replaced which is over $600 just for the part & another $1000 for labor. My only option was to completely disconnect the air bag assembly as its the only way to stop the horn. So now I have to drive the car without the air bag system. This is a direct safety defect!! I spoke with a Chrysler rep & they informed me that they had never heard of this problem with that years model, even though there are sooo many complaints online all over the usa about it... how can this not be a safety recall"?" I will never buy another Chrysler!!

Horn or alarm randomly goes off. Impossible to stop, it does so eventually on its own. This is on entry to the car, whether by key, key fob, or even opening trunk..and when driving at speed randomly. Is this not a serious safety issue? did a dealer check and they could not find anything. No recalls, no problems from Chrysler...hard to believe since I see many complaints online that point to a horn pad assembly problem that costs $1000 to fix. This is a low mileage low used car, I am the second owner, the first being my father. Not a lot of horn blowing. Took in again to dealer, called Chrysler, no info from either. Returned to the dealer with mechanic and replicated the problem, and he finally agreed it might be the horn assembly, and removed the horn fuse. Apparently there is a foil that gets worn through causing a short activating the horn, and the only way to fix is a reassembly. This is not a fix, this is a faulty manufacturing issue (materials skimping to cut corners). This is not a way to be a long time manufacturer and maintain the quality expected of american cars. Its awful and unsafe. They also led the mechanic around in circles testing computers and all sorts of things when 5 min on the internet directed me to the problem and after a quick test proved true. Such a waste of time.

2006 Chrysler sebring, horn randomly goes off either while vehicle engine is on or off....I took out the horn fuse and now have been driving unsafely without horn and apparently airbags. This vehicle has been in a few accidents and the air bags never went off.this needs to be recalled, there are many people with this problem, and not only are we driving around without a horn, but also no airbags. If I or anyone else gets injured in my car due to this matter there will be a lawsuit against Chrysler, and I am not the suing type, but I purchased this vehicle brand new and should have the ability to be safe and due to this issue, I cannot. What does it take for a recall....serious injury or death?

The Sebring hit the car in front of it. Left front of Sebring hitting the right rear bumper of car in front of it. Immediately stopping the Sebring and then having it roll backwards into a ditch. Totally the Sebring. No air bags deployed. Injuries sustained because of airbags not deploying. Weather outside was below zero.

Could not use my horn and airbag did not deploy during an accident. The airbag and horn do not work because the fuse had to be taken out the fuse runs these functions. The fuse was taken out because the horn does not function properly which also means the airbag has a fifty, fifty chance of working with the fuse in. Because no investigation has been done on this function everyone on the road is at risk. Safety is an issue and this needs to have a recall. Stop making americans pay for lemons!!!

This is a safety issue not only for the driver of the car the others on the road with them! I was just going down the road and the horn starting going off all by itself. Finally took out the fuse. The horn just goes off randomly. It went off when hitting unlock button on remote and or just driving. Then took it to my mechanic and he said that the horn pad assembly which was a dealer only part had to be replaced some sensor or something. So right now I have just left the fuse out, because it is an expensive fix. $1000. I agree with all of the other people that Chrysler should be fixing this issue. Removing the fuse has caused the air bag functions to be unknown. Removing the fuse to stop the horn also affects part of the fueling system according to the manual (same fuse). Removing the fuse has caused us not to be able to use our horn incase something ran in front of the car or to alarm others of harm. The horn is a function of safety and warning. This is standard on all cars as a precaution and warning system. This is not a part of the car that is special ordered, these come standard with all cars. So why is Chrysler not paying for this safety issue? your company has been run into the ground with recalls and safety measures not being taken seriously enough. Time to act on this situation; with over 70 complaints this must not be a whim. Sad part is this is not the only issue with this car three recalls on it and the dealer sold the car anyway without repairing recalls.

The horn goes off by itself. When the car is parked or it is moving. This happens at night and it disturbs my neighbors. Sometimes it starts blowing while I'm driving. There are several complaints about this problem. On the carcomplaints.com website. This is an electrical problem and a customer was told it had something to do with the airbag. A mechanic disabled the airbag, which is very dangerous. There are 38 complaints on the website. Any electrical problem like this can be very hazardous to the passengers inside the vehicle. Chrysler needs to fix this problem!

Horn goes off for no reason until fuse is pulled. Now that fuse is pulled I am driving around with no airbags. This has happened at least 4 times a week until I now go with the fuse out all the time. No safe driving around with out airbags!!!!! please issue a recall on whatever is causing this issue and putting thousands of people at risk.
