Sebring

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

I stopped to get a bite to eat before work and when I came back to my car it wouldn't shift out of park. I got a ride from a friend and left the car in the restaurant parking lot. I was a half hour late and I guess I'll be taking a taxi home later tonight. What really pisses me off though is from a quick online search this is a common problem for 2007-2008 Sebrings because of a cheap pink plastic part used in the shifter.

Sebring 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 201,287 miles

REPLACE TRANSMISSION CAR STILL DON''T SHIFT OUT. REPLACE ECM DUE THIS MAY WAS THE PROBLEM, CAR STILL DON'T SHIFT OUT. TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACE THE RECALL WHICH WAS THE K-16 TRANSMISSION LEVER WHERE THE CAR WOULDN'T GO IN GEAR. THIS TORE UP TWICE BEFORE I REALIZE THERE WAS A K-16 RECALL ON MY VIN NUMBER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SHIFTING DUE TO INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WHICH SOMEONE ELSE REPLACE TRANSMISSION. SO NOW I'M OUT OF MONEY FOR A TRANSMISSION AND A ECM AND THE CAR STILL NOT SHIFTING. THEN THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO LEAP MODE WILL DRIVING AND IT DO. WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER I GOT ABOUT 30 MILES THE CAR JUST STOP TAKING THE GAS LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. SO I STOPPED AND SWITCHED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AND THEN STARTED AGAIN AND DROVE FOR ABOUT 4 MILES AND IT DID IT AGAIN. I HAD TO KEEP STOPPING UNTIL I MADE IT HOME. THE CAR STOP CHANGING OUT IT WILL REMAIN IN HIGH GEAR AND I ONLY COULD DRIVE 40 MILES. MY CAR IS STILL LIKE THIS. MY TRANSMISSION WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IT WAS 90 DAYS. THE MECHANIC ADVISED IT WAS THE ECM NOT THE TRANSMISSION, I LOST AT THE END. THE MECHANIC ADVISED TRANSMISSION MODULAR WAS DAMAGE SO REPLACE IT AND STILL DIDN'T WORK WITH CAR SHIFTING OUT, THIS WHEN HE SAID IT WAS THE ECM, STILL NOT THE PROBLEM.

Sebring Touring V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,559 miles

I was informed of a recall issue in Oct 2010 (Automatic Transmission Shift Lever Interlock Spring) stating that IF I were to have a problem, my car would NOT move from the "Park" gear. I took my car to the local Chrysler dealer and it was NOT REPLACED, but "Inspected." The dealer claims my car was "OK." WELL, on Monday evening August 2, 2011, I attempted to leave home and the car was STUCK IN PARK! My 2007 Chrysler Sebring (Touring) has 31,559K miles! I called the dealer the next morning, they called the towing company THEY used (knowledge of HOW to PROPERLY bypass the gear issue) so that NO DAMAGE would be done to my vehicle! Tow operator was SURE it was the recall issue! The Dealer CLAIMS it was my SHIFTER! REALLY? I obviously have done minimal shifting with 31,559 miles on my 2007 Sebring. (NOT EVEN THE COVERED 36K Miles, BUT past TIME) NOT ONLY did it cost me to REPAIR, I also had to pay for towing! I am TERRIBLY disappointed and PISSED OFF with Chrysler, I have convinced another family member to purchase a Chrysler since purchasing mine and my fiance was ABOUT TO purchase a brand new Chrysler SPORTS CAR! It will NOT HAPPEN, we will NEVER INVEST IN ANOTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLE AGAIN! I will SPREAD the word to other family and friends of the MECHANICAL ISSUES I am already having with a car with LESS than 32,000K Miles!

Sebring 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,193 miles

On April 25, 2007 we purchased a 2007 Sebring with 91 miles on it. 14 days later with 1193 miles on the car, service engine light comes on and it will not shift. Took it immediately to purchasing dealer. They claim they found water in transmission and are convinced we drove the car through high water. We absolutely did not. They claim Chrysler warranty does not cover water damage. They told us it would cost us $400 to clean it out and replace solenoid(spelling), plugs, air filter etc. They did this and this did not solve problem, light still on , still won't shift. We never even pick the car up after this repair. So their next solution is we need a new transmission and the cost to us would be $4600. We were in contact with Chrysler and they basically said they would do us a favor and only make us pay $500. So... they put in transmission finally and called and said the car was fixed. We went to pick up car, gave them a stinking $500. Didn't even get out of the parking lot, light still on, still not shifting!!! So we turned around and took it right back in. Waited 3 more days to hear from them, now they say the battery was dead, a wire harness is corroded, we need another new solenoid and we need new a computer module. They have had the car for 30 consecutive days now. We had the car for 14. I am pulling my hair out. We have contacted Chrysler concerning a repurchase, but I'm not holding my breath. Any suggestions?
