Sebring Limited Conv

  • Automatic transmission
  • 210,000 miles

(Previously sent to Chrysler Corporate)

I just want you to now know that after replacing the battery this am which was due, the mechanic showed me the corrosion and rust on the subframe which was extensive. Not much rust anywhere else except for the subframe. Everything was understood except when I researched the rust problem online and found that this is a major problem with the Sebring and Pacifica which even has a class action being built for the rust on the subframes. The pictures online look almost identical to mine...

This seems to contradict your statement below that the cars are built to last if they are maintained.

I realize that the rust is caused from salt on the road? I paid for unlimited car washes monthly to rinse the underbelly after snow/ice/salt Which I feel is part of maintaining my car. Never expected the rust to be so severe on the subframe. The car looks new except for the extensive deteriorating subframe which is a major safety hazard due to the severity.. I had been contemplating purchasing another Chrysler/Dodge but I am now having second thoughts after what I found out today.

I have been a loyal customer. I have owned a 95 Cherokee, 96 Grand Cherokee, 1998 Dodge Ram, 2000 Dodge Ram, 2000 Chrysler Sebring, 2001 Chrysler Sebring, 2007 Chrysler Town & Country, 2008 Chrysler Sebring.

Sebring LX 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,000 miles

Took the car in to have a ball joint issue fixed. The mechanic would not touch it. The subframe is severely rotted and he said fixing the ball joint could cause it to break completely. He then took me out to the garage to show me the issue. Although there isn't much rust anywhere else on the bottom of the car, the subframe is in a dangerous condition with cracks and multiple large holes. Chrysler has been aware of this problem and has extended the warranties on three of their models. They did not extend it on the Sebrings. I am now stuck paying for a car I cannot drive because it's too dangerous. Used car lot sold the car with the frame issue and did not disclose. I cannot get anyone to help me.
