The torque converter locked up during travel through a busy intersection. Vehicle shuddered and came to a stop. Vehicle stalled, and had to be pushed through the busy intersection to a nearby gas station. Transmission repair at dealer showed the torque bearing had failed causing the torque converter to become welded to the clutch plate. The danger to myself and the family was in being stuck in traffic at a busy intersection. The bearing should not have failed. Normal maintenance was done on the vehicle as outlined in owners manual.
