Town & Country 3.8L

2001 Chrysler Town and Country....this vehicle will shut off at anytime at random and won't restart or turnover it acts like it's dead. No engine light will show up to even be diagnosed. Like I said, this will happen at random, even in heavy traffic such as it did with my wife.

This has happened numerous times and appears to be getting worse. However, after this happens, stay seated in the vehicle for 3 minutes with the key in the off position then try to restart and then the vehicle will start and act like nothing has ever happened. Have checked all grounds, terminals, and sensors, fuel pump replaced, fuel pump filter replaced, alternator replaced, battery replaced, sensors replaced, and it is still doing it.... It is definitely ELECTRICAL issue.

T have talked with some mechanics and they say it is either the ECM (computer) or a short in the circuit board or wiring harness that involves the theft system. Nevertheless, it is a real pain in the butt to diagnose. and yes it is still in my driveway and cannot use it for fear it will cut out on you again. There are YouTube videos out there that show problems in the circuit board behind the instrument cluster.

Good luck to all those that have this same issue,... I will not be buying another Chrysler product.

Everything is fine, your out for a drive, you stop to get lunch, then the car won't start. You have the car towed and the car starts working again, no problems. Then the same thing happens again, and again.

Since May 2010 my van sometimes won't start. It will start if jump started. I had the Autozone people check the alternator and starter. They said they were fine and I should take it to an auto electrician who had been very successful in fixing this problem. In this van the voltage regulator is controlled by pin 4 on the computer. The electrician said he would remove pin 4, and add an external voltage regulator. He further stated that he has been successful in this technique, and no problems have been reported. The total repair would cost about $150. I haven't got the money to fix it now. I read on other complaints and found a man in St Louis, MO had the same problem back in December. I wonder if there is a recall on this computer, as that's where the problem is.

Town & Country LX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

We were out of town for a week and left the car at the airport. When we returned the car started and was driven 1 mile to pick up the luggage the car was turned off the luggage loaded then the car would not start. We got a jump and drove 15 miles home. the car started every time for the next month. The next time it would not start I took it to a local mechanic. They could not duplicate the problem and suggested I take it to a dealer. I waited until it would not start again then took it to a dealer. They could not duplicate the problem. And suggested I take it to a Auto electrical specialist. They have been unable to duplicate the problem. All mechanics agree the battery is good, the alternator is good and the starter is good. The only question is the relay and computer. No one can isolate the problem. The car has given excellent service until now and has been well maintained.
