2008 Chrysler town country. Consumer writes in regards to smoking engine compartment, defective A/C and ramp door. The consumer stated the vehicle's failures began within the first week of owning it. While driving, all electrical power shut off. The engine would not shut off and began to smoke excessively with water gushing from the engine compartment. The horn randomly went off and was disabled by disconnecting the battery. The vehicle has shut off while driving and the steering wheel locked up simultaneously. While attempting to reverse out of the garage, the vehicle went forward instead and stalled out.

The van shut off while driving over a dozen times in the past 3 weeks. It only occurs while driving in slow speeds and happens when first starting the van and while parking. The entire car shuts off and I lose power steering and the van goes dead. Mechanic cannot replicate problem. Maintenance is scheduled regularly and gas is always at a half a tank.

After 6 weeks of owning the vehicle I noticed that the sliding doors were not operating correctly. They would open or close on their own. It started off being only once or twice a month to now an almost everyday occurrence. I have taken it back to the dealership and they sent it to another dealership and I am being told "they can't get it to duplicate" well al I can say is what is it going to take for them to fix the problem, a child getting badly hurt or killed. The final straw for me was just last week when the door closed on my 10 yr. Olds leg and I had to put my whole body in the door to get it to stop. It bruise my back and cut my sons leg. I am currently trying to get rid of the van before it does major damage to one of my kids, but I feel like I should at least get the money back I have put into it since now I am going to have to come up more money to get a new car and pay sales tax all over again. Not to mention the fact that all you have to do is google "problems with Chrysler vans sliding doors" and there are hundreds of people out there having the same problem. Why won't you guys do anything to help us, or is this another one of those times when a tragedy like the death of a child has to happen to make you wake up and take action. I even contacted Chrysler and told me that they didn't have any record of people complaining about the sliding door issues I was having. I told that lady she was full of crap because you can go online and see hundreds of stories of people having the same problems.

Cargo sliding door track broken apart first occurred about one year ago. Track easily snapped back together. Recently became chronic problem and track /harness deformed and unable to snap together. Description: When closing door via remote, the door stops closing about 4 inches before shut and returns open. Usualy closes afterseveral attempt but often have to close manually. The wiring track / harness was broken apart. Took to dealer for repair and part replaced. The next day the same thing occurred and track observed to be separated again. Taking back to dealer tomorrow. Has had previous recall on doors.

Beginning in 2010, both rear sliding doors began malfunctioning. When opened either with the remote or inside button, they begin to open and when most of the way open, close on its own. It started out doing it infrequently, about once every 50 times the door was opened. Over the last year it has become more frequent, doing it about once every few days or so. Once in 2010, my 3 year old daughter was getting out and the door malfunctioned and caught her in between, causing a bruise on her face. For some reason the door did not "bounce back" when it made contact with her, but thankfully I was standing there and was able to manually force the door back open.this year, the door again malfunctioned and almost caught my 8 yr old, but he managed to get out of the way. I have taken it to the dealer twice for this and both times they told me it is functioning fine.the first time I picked it up from the dealer I tested the door. I opened and shut it about 15 times and it malfunctioned. I went inside to get the repair tech to show him and when it didn't happen again he told me there was nothing he could do. When I brought the van in again to have them look at it the second time, they again told me it was functioning fine and that since my van needed a new battery that they thought the battery was the problem. The door did it again that night and again after that three days later. I contacted them twice about it again, asking them if I video taped it if they would believe me and figure out what was wrong. They told me it wouldn't matter and that they would need to keep it until they saw it. They had my van this last time for 5 days! I had to pay $217 for a rental because they didn't find anything. This is dangerous! I have four children getting in and out everyday. I don't have the money for rentals for an unspecified amount of time, but this is dangerous and needs to get fixed!

The right rear power sliding door on the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country fails to latch properly and does not notify the operator of the malfunction. The door will fail to operate in the closing operation with the power sliding option and requires operator intervention to manually close the door. In many instances when the door fails to close properly, iit is impossible to manually close the door to get the latch mechanism to engage. The failure of the door to latch constitutes a safety concern. The fact that there is no warning indicator to notify the operator that the door has not latched poses a severe safety risk to the occupants. The only notification the operator receives during this malfunction is increased road noise due to poor sealing between the door and door frame. Occupants could be ejected from the unlatched door. The manufacturers representative has been made aware of the concern and has failed to properly address the concern or shown any interest in resolving the issue. Other owners of Chrysler Town & Country vehicles has stated that they have experienced similar concerns with their power sliding rear doors.

When the seam fail and peels off, it cause injuries to palm and fingers. Cut ranging from small skin cut to major open cuts.

The vehicle does not give any warning before it shut down; however, it does not occur while sitting idle. The contact stated that the sliding doors do not close automatically. The doors close and then open back up. The doors will only close manually. The contact also stated that the engine light came on and the dealer had to replace the etesian indicator sensor. The brakes had to be replaced twice within the first 37603 miles. The first time they were replaced at 21000 miles. The rear brakes had to be replaced at 29781. The rear lift gate broke in September 2009. The starter failure caused the air conditioner to fail and the windows from opening and closing. The contact stated that they also had a problem with the air bag light coming on. The clock spring steering angle sensor was replaced. The vehicle will start and the gear shift selector would move, but when the gas pedal was engaged the vehicle would not accelerate. 2008 Chrysler Town and country. Consumer states problems with front and rear brakes the consumer stated the brakes have been replaced three times. The consumer stated there was a burning smell coming from the vehicle. The consumer immediately pulled over and discovered the front brakes were extremely hot and the rear brakes were smoking. The service manager indicated there was a problem with the brakes and they could not seem to fix them. Also, the air vent was not working properly, a fuse had to be replaced, as well as the starter. The driver side mirror had to be replaced, the handle on the sliding door was replaced, the driver side rear door did open properly and the bumper fell apart. I have a 2008 Chrysler Town and country with a sliding door problem. I sporadically have a problem with the door (has happened to both sliding doors but especially the driver's side) closing part way and then opening. Seems like some kind of sensor problem. It will also at times open of itself after it has been closed and I have walked away from it or gone into the house. Have complained to the Chrysler dealer. They said is was a computer problem and said it was fixed. It is not. I don't have much faith in the dealer as I have read about many others who have experienced the same thing and with no permanent fix. This has happened multiple times, not just the date cited.

I have a 2008 Town and country and have had nothing but problems for the last 27 months. My doors closed in on me while putting my 2 year old into the car seat. The la time was Jan.2 2010 and I am pregnant could not turn around to force the door open my husband had to get out of the car and manually open the door. If that would have been MY2 year old she would of been hurt. Chrysler doesn't seem to care this car is a lemon.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. On May 1, 10, and 16, 2008, the vehicle stalled while driving between 20-50 mph. The vehicle lost power steering and all the components in the passenger compartment shut off. The contact pulled over to the shoulder and the vehicle restarted on its own. He was able to drive the vehicle as normal. On May 19, 2008, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. He was informed to drive the vehicle until the failure recurred. The vehicle loses power when driving around corners, but does not shut off completely. The vehicle fails to immediately accelerate for up to five seconds, and then operates normally. On occasion, the radio will not turn on for at least 45 minutes before operating normally again. In addition, the sliding driver's side door has a history of opening when the contact is away from the vehicle. The current mileage was 2,100 and failure mileage was 1,638.

We have had nothing but problems since we bought this vehicle in September 2007. First, the doors reopen by themselves - that took 8 trips to the service department before it was finally fixed in May 2008. Another issue that has not been resolved is that the starter sticks when you start the vehicle. This is an occasional problem and difficult for the service department to duplicate. Yesterday, June 8, the van completely lost power while I was driving. I lost all power steering, brakes, lights - everything! I have taken it to the dealer and they can't figure it out and DaimlerChrysler has not been any help. In fact, when I called to inquire about a repurchase of the vehicle - I asked 4 times to speak to a supervisor and then the agent hung up on me when I insisted that I speak with a supervisor! I'm extremely worried about the safety of this vehicle. I will not allow my children to ride in this vehicle again.

I have a 2008 Chrysler town and county that I have had problems with the doors about a month after I purchased it. I had just parked it was christmas eve and the side passenger door opened by itself and my puppy got out in a very busy shopping center. I have gone out to go to work in the morning and the door is open. On Monday, May 21 I came out of work and the back hatch was open. I have made a number of trips to the dealer. They really are not much help. I was told they are having to reprogram the doors and in some cased even put in new rails. Chrysler really has a safety issue with this van.
