Town & Country Touring 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

The vehicle would not start. At first we thought it was the starter. Then out of no where we got it started and drove it to a local shop. They suggested that it was the Battery. We drove the van home only to have it have starting problems once again. Replacing the battery did not solve the problem. We had to have the vehicle towed to another local shop.

Update from Jan 7, 2016: After the Battery was replaced the vehicle still did not start. We tool the van to our local shop and they replaced the fuel pump. The van started for a few days and the engine stopped starting once again. After a lot of frustration we towed the van back to the shop and discovered that the TIPM was bad and now the van starts again.

Town & Country Touring Plus V6

Since 2 months ago I have had to boost the car now every morning. My car is parked in my garage nothing on, nothing plugged in and next morning dead battery again. I am supposed to bring it to the dealer on the week of July 5th for a diagnosis of the problem. Then I will try to come back here to update.

Update from Jul 27, 2015: After much testing back and forth to the dealer, them not finding anything wrong with the charging system or the battery. I had no choice but to self diagnose as always. My findings were a faulty battery, after testing everyday I'll inspected every inch of the car and found a cracked casting on the battery at the top negative terminal, it would leak out acid then kill me charge then the dealer supposedly checked and found nothing. I brought it in to the dealer stated the car keeps dying all it would take is a few seconds of the door open to kill the charge in the battery. I purchased a new battery from Auto zone, then I had them perform a free test to the battery and alternator all passed. When I took the battery out we noticed the cracked case, the guy from Auto zone asked "how the hell did that happen" I replied "That's what I want to know, CHRYSLER". So Chrysler how did that happen?

The first week we owned this new car the battery died, till today the battery drains. The dealer cannot find problem. Never ever trust Levittown Town & Chrysler Dodge Jeep, we purchased a lemon and nothing but problems. If I were to have no family I would have drove through the showroom and wrecked all the cars then leave my lemon. After 2 years of extensive research this dealership has been in trouble before by the Attorney General and others for selling fake sales, warranties and bad business. To sum it all up just ripping customers off. So do yourself a favor, if you live on Long Island stay far, very far away from Levittown Town and Country, they will rape you. Or just stay away from Chrysler, I should have stuck with my Honda, very reliable. You want reliable, visit Honda City LI, the best experience I have ever had and best car I ever had. Happy Holidays to you all drive safe, stay away from Chrysler, you might get squirted in the eye by the Lemons.

This is the third time I have had this issue and will have to go to the dealer again. With a jump start it will run fine for awhile. I don't know the next time when this will happen. I want it fixed.

Town & Country Touring 3.3L 6 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,330 miles

October 29th - Check engine light on. Van is 22 months old and has 39,330 miles on it.

October 30 and 31 - Woke up to dead battery. Won't start. Jump started and ran fine for day, but next day dead again.

November 1 - Took van to dealer from whom we bought it. They did diagnostic scan and computer said brake switch was bad. Paid $235 for repair. Dealer also pointed out 2 bad tires. Paid $336 for tires.

November 2-9 - Dealer tech tries van. It won't start. Battery is dead. Pay $135 for battery. Tech takes car out to test new switch and battery and check engine light comes on.

Week of Nov 11th - Tech gets multiple faults from diagnostic computer. Installs TIPM. Sends van to Dealer #2 for PCM (power control module) to be covered under warranty. Dealer #2 installs PCM and declares car fixed. Pay $300 for labor.

Next day Dealer #1 goes to Dealer #2 to pick up car - van won't start - dead battery Dealer #1 says new TIPM may be causing issue. Tech replaces TIPM and reprograms it. Roadtests vehicle to verify repairs. Pay $545.22 for new TIPM

November 14th - Dealer #1 calls to say van is fixed ! We can come to pick up. They will get car washed and return to us! Yay!

Go to pick up car, Dealer /Svc Mgr explains that there was a problem when they went to wash it. Van would not shift out of Park so they could move it at car wash. They worked on it and got it out of Park. Then they couldn't get it to go INTO Park

November 16th – Dealer #1 calls to say van is ready. Pick up van and head for exit. Check engine light comes on again. Turn around and go back to service department.

Dealer #1 says that as gesture of “good faith” they will only charge us $50 per hour for their labor as they continue to figure this out.

November 20th – Dealer #1 has been working earnestly (at $50 per hour) to fix problem. We call Chrysler and complain that this is getting ridiculous. Chrysler says that Dealer #1 is not authorized Chrysler dealership so they won’t help us. (I point out they were authorized to take our $23,000+ when we BOUGHT the van. They don’t care).

Ask Dealer #1 to take van to Dealer #2 so Chrysler MIGHT help with some of the expenses, depending on what it needs.

November 23 - Repeated calls to Dealer #2 - Dealership tells us van isn’t there. Call Dealership #1; they tell us is it at Dealership #2. Call Chrysler to complain that we really have had no progress report for a week. They get on 3 way call with me to Dealer #2 to ask for prognosis. Dealer #2 says Dealer #1 made mess of van, invalidating warranty. They will not work on it until Dealer #1 returns van to OEM and un-does repairs. HOWEVER, whatever Dealership #1 did seems to have worked (even though they did crappy job). Dealership #2 says they cannot find anything wrong with van and get no codes when they hook it up to machines. He says he has told Dealership #1 to come get the van that day. I ask him to explain to them about invalidating warranty and returning vehicle to OEM. Call Dealership #1 and explain conversation. Ask Dealership #1 to please buy back van. They have valued it at $16,000. They said when it is fixed. November 24th – Husband realizes he left something in the van. Goes to Dealership #1 to get it out of van. Cannot locate van (even though both dealerships’ service departments said it was going there day before). Drives over to Dealership #2 . Van is there. Tries to open door. Cannot use remote because THE BATTERY IS DEAD in this van that has NOTHING WRONG WITH IT – according to Dealership #2 Service Manager.

November 26th – Talk to Dealership #1 about getting van and returning it to OEM so we can get someone else to work on it. Dealership #1 offers to take it to their sister Chrysler dealership (Dealership #3) 120 miles away.

Call Chrysler Customer Service to tell them where van is – in case they care. They don’t care, BECAUSE CHRYSLER CLOSED OUT THE CASE BECAUSE DEALERSHIP #2 TOLD THEM THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.

Asked Chrysler to re-open case and again asked for compensation for $1,600 paid in repairs. They said MAYBE they will pay for something IF it is a long term warranty item.

November 29th - Called Dealership #3 to ask what they were doing with van. Service Manager at Dealership #3 says they have 4 Master Electricians working on it – not to worry about a thing.

TODAY IS December 3, 2012. Still no word on minivan. 32 days and $1,600. (Asking for refund of tires also. Would YOU have paid $336 to put tires on this thing? )
