Tipm failure, faulty fuel pump relay. Car cranks but will not start. Fuel pump replaced and same issue occurs.

Our 2011 Town & Country started having starting/stalling issues about 3 months ago - mind you there is only about 81K miles on the vehicle. The dealer first replaced the power module in September, then the issue returned only to be causing more electrical issues. The car was taken back to the dealer and it was explained then that they had to replace the power module due to a faulty relay. This is the exact same issue that other Chrysler/Dodge vehicles of the same year are being recalled for. The stalling was dangerous as it happened while driving. This has been a very costly problem without a recall being issued - although vehicles using the same engine and components are being recalled. Please help escalate this.

On November 14, 2019 I was traveling with my 18 year old son to detroit metro airport. We were entering the entrance ramp of I-94 & us 23. We were traveling at 65mph. As I was merging onto I94 traffic, my 2011 Town & Country lost all power. The car completely shut down. I was unable to steer the car, brake the car. I was fortunately not involved in an accident. I am noting that the only key(fob) on the key ring was the key fob it self. Prior to this incident (past 8 years we've owned this vehicle) we have never encountered such an incident. The van did require a tow and we are currently waiting on the problem that caused this incident from the Chrysler dealership in saline, mi (lafontaine Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram saline) phone # 1-866-593-6805. The reason I'm filing this complaint is due to noticing several thousand similar incidents from various chat forums. The key fob seems to be a point of interest as to why the vehicle all of a sudden loses power and shuts down in the act of driving. My van without warning started running rought in drive, shaking, engine light came on blinking fast took it to mechanic. It shows all cyclinders have severe misfiring issues. They can not figure out why and told me to take to Chrysler dealership. This van runs crappy has no power to get to dealership. I was on a city street trying to drive 20 miles an hour it would not hardly move. I turned around and took it home it was fine up until this happened. This could have been something very dangerous if I was on a highway in heavy traffic.

I came to a complete stop, shifted the vehicle in park, the vehicle's back up camera came on and it had the R illuminated, indicating it was in reverse. I tried to slowly step on the gas but it would not move. I tried to shift to another gear and it would not shift, I shut the van off, waited a few minutes and restarted it. I then was able to slowly shift to drive and slowly back to park and shut vehicle off. It has a hard time shifting in lower gears as well while driving, when you do put the vehicle into reverse it feels like it drops very hard into that gear. No codes stored.

The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to park the vehicle on the side of the roadway, exited the vehicle, opened the hood and saw flames by the alternator. The contact stated he was able to extinguish the flames with a bottle of water. The police and fire department were not contacted. The vehicle was towed dick poe Chrysler Jeep (6501 Montana ave, el paso, tx 79925, (915) 778-9331) where it was diagnosed as a malfunctioning alternator that needed to be replaced along with the starter. The vehicle has not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer has been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

The vehicle will not start sometimes (the starter cranks but won't start) but then starts a few minutes later and you have no clue why, and sometimes the lights come on while parked at the house and then turn off. Other times the vehicle cranks up but will not start and after releasing the button it keeps cranking up for about 20 seconds? sounds like some problem with the firmware for the totally integrated power module (tipm) which is the gateway or distribution box for nearly the entire electrical system in late-model Chrysler products. Because of the intermittent nature (I have been experiencing this over more than 6 months and it will not repeat at my mechanics location) it is very hard to diagnose totally. The engine seems to be starting to run a little rougher than it used to also. I have over 125,000 miles with the vehicle and it has always worked great until this intermittent problem started. I also wake up my neighbors at different times of the night when the horn starts going off at random times. This one problem has been occurring since the car had about 20,000 miles and I attributed it to the key fob but I am not so sure. I have talked to Chrysler who keeps telling me that there is no recall so if I go in I have to pay to get it fixed while I think it is an engineering design problem that should be fixed at no cost. The date below reflects the latest instance but it has happened a lot during the past few years.

Van has had a few times where it will not start, you can turn the key all the way to the on position, all the lights/radio and air will come on but the engine fails to start, does not make a noise. After a few tries it will start. Recently the key got stuck in the on position to start and the engine tried starting 4 times while stuck in that position before it finally started and almost quit. Did not dare to turn vehicle off due to the possibility it would not start. Research states the tipm is the cause of this along with multiple electrical issues. This should be recalled.

Traveling on 2 lane road across a bridge at 35 mph when all dash lights came on then all off and engine died which caused power steering loss and power brake loss, no power at all in vehicle stranded on side of road. This could have caused a bad accident had there been more traffic. This was caused by the PCM (engine computer) failing. I see that this is a frequent occurence with this vehicle.

The contact called back and was informed that they could not help with the repair expenses since there was no recall. The vehicle was taken to sport durst Chrysler Dodge Jeep (4513 durham-chapel hill blvd, durham, nc 27707, (919) 724-4677) where the vehicle was being held until authorization was received to repair the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 101,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler Town and country. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle intermittently stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wireless win module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to St. Charles Nissan (5625 veterans memorial pkwy, St peters, mo 63376, (636) 441-4481) where it was diagnosed that the wire harness module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The failure mileage was 57,711. The VIN was invalid.

We started having issues with my van a couple months ago. Thought it was the fuel pump, so we replaced it. Still had problems. But much worse! van wouldn't start. And 3.5 hours later my fuel pump was still running. Did some further looking into it. Come to find out the tipm needs replaced (or just the relay). So looking into the system more, the tipm has caused the starter to not start. It is sitting in my garage until we can get the tipm work done. Not very safe. Very mad! I still owe money on this car and now we dont have a car big enough for the family. I will never buy Chrysler cars again!!! this has been the worst 7 months with this car!!!!

My Chrysler Town and country began having what I thought was a minor turn signal issue. After replacing the bulb and that not correct the issue my mechanic replaced the fuses and that did not solve the issue. I was then told that my tipm box/system was bad. That an $800 part to fix a signal turn signal. Well it had to be replaced in order to pass inspection in order to continue driving the vehicle. So I replaced it. Fast forward 1 year later and my vehicle begins to intermittently spudder when coming to a complete stop. I then began to completly shut off at times after highway driving over a distance of 5 or more miles when I exit and stop or slow down after exiting the highway. When I took it to the shop, they test drove the vehicle and it stalled on the highway during their test drive diagnostic. They had to get assistance to get the vehicle out of the road. They then told me that only the dealership can correct the tipm system.

After restarting the vehicle, the temperature gauge increased and decreased and the engine would continue to shut off. Also, the contact stated that other electrical failures previously occurred, such as the passenger side sliding door would buzz and the windows malfunctioned.
