About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Vehicle would lose power. First problem was while at the gas station with my children (age 4 and 1) and with the key in the cup holder, the doors locked on their own. I had to call my husband to bring spare key. The next issue was the vehicle battery drained and had to get jumped. The last issue was the vehicle would not turn on. All of the lights turned on but would not crank over.Took it to my local dealership and was advised that the TIPM failed.

The vehicle will not start sometimes (the starter cranks but won't start) but then starts a few minutes later and you have no clue why, and sometimes the lights come on while parked at the house and then turn off. Other times the vehicle cranks up but will not start and after releasing the button it keeps cranking up for about 20 seconds? sounds like some problem with the firmware for the totally integrated power module (tipm) which is the gateway or distribution box for nearly the entire electrical system in late-model Chrysler products. Because of the intermittent nature (I have been experiencing this over more than 6 months and it will not repeat at my mechanics location) it is very hard to diagnose totally. The engine seems to be starting to run a little rougher than it used to also. I have over 125,000 miles with the vehicle and it has always worked great until this intermittent problem started. I also wake up my neighbors at different times of the night when the horn starts going off at random times. This one problem has been occurring since the car had about 20,000 miles and I attributed it to the key fob but I am not so sure. I have talked to Chrysler who keeps telling me that there is no recall so if I go in I have to pay to get it fixed while I think it is an engineering design problem that should be fixed at no cost. The date below reflects the latest instance but it has happened a lot during the past few years.

I just started having problems with my electrical system. I can hear electrical crackling noises while the vehicle is running, I have also smelled overheating electrical wires. For months the tire pressure indicator keeps flashing that I have a low tire: Yet every time I have the tire pressure check, the air pressure is the same in each tire. I have taken it to the dealer twice for this problem but they can't find anything wrong: This occurs in both stationary and motion. Yesterday while driving my grandson to school, the dash lights and navigation system went completely black for no known reason, vehicle was in motion. I accidently discovered that if I quickly turn the windshield wipers on and then off the dash and navigation lights come on. Vehicle only has 37,000 miles and I feel this is the beginning of of some major safety issues in the future and the warranty is expired. I have had the rear stow and go seat replaced because the seat would not go into the standard position, nor would it go into the stowed position. The seat would just go up and down at will. Finally after calling Chrysler and 3 trips to the dealer, they replaced the entire seat. But it still acts up ocassionaly. At this point, I have not been out any money for repairs but I am beginning to fear driving the vehicle. I never know if the lights are going to suddenly decide to go dark with driving at night, or if the rear seats are going to start going up and down.

We can not get Chrysler to order parts and repair the recall for the rear quarter vent window switch. This is recall P25/NHTSA 14V-234. They never have the parts and are not willing to order the needed parts for the recall. They suggest calling them weekly to see if any part came in that week.

Turn signal lamp on both mirrors defective. Cover comes off exposing the electrical board with the lights. Both sides not functioning. This appears to be a common issue on the internet. We have a Chrysler maximum care plan which it the best warranty Chrysler offers but this part is not covered. This item is for added safety but not functioning and I'm concerned exposed electrical boards to the weather could cause a short or fire.

Engine would not turn on, vehicle seem to not get fuel or it would start then stall. Had the fuel pump replaced and plugs replaced but the problem remains.

I was driving and the vehicle kept prompting me blind spot service is not available. Like it was trying to reset. After rotating several times, it got stuck with message service blind spot monitor service. Both mirrors had the amber triangle lit up, kind of distracting. Dealer will not cover due to out warranty. Cost is > $2000 for two sensors with harness. I don't understand how both sensors went out at the same time. Each sensor is for each side. If Chrysler had a lifecycle that was short, consumers should have been made aware (similar to changing bulbs, fluids, battery, brakes, etc.). if you review the number of complaints, the vehicle should be recalled for this issue. Seems like Chrysler produced a part which was not fully tested.

The whole electric system shut down periodically, and the wiper go off but all other electrical shut down. Flasher light door lock etc... it is a safety issue and this car went 3 time to the dealer and they don't know whats wrong. We took a video of the issue. The dealer told my wife its fine to drive but without light and flasher I think its not safe. We contact Chrysler Corp but nobody care.

We purchased this 2011 Chrysler Town and country as a new vehicle in Jan.of 2012. Since the purchase there have been 5 incidents where the van has lost all electrical power making clicking noises, and leaving us stranded. The final incident happened on Dec. 26,2014 while traveling in the mountains of North Carolina. It was 10:30 pm, no street lights and nothing but steep terrain on the sides. The vehicle completely shut down and was making the clicking noises.the power steering was lost, headlights off and all other electrical functions were unavailable. Once in complete darkness we noticed we had shifted into the oncoming lane of traffic. We noticed headlights coming at us in the distance, luckily quick thinking and use of a flashlight we were able to warn the oncoming vehicle of our position in their lane. They stopped in front of our vehicle and turned on their hazards to provide warning for other vehicles. Being that we were in imminent danger, I had to disconnect the battery and let the system reset. After taking it to the dealership they once again said they could not find a problem. The dealership only stated, " have it towed in when it happens". being that the last 2 times this happened we were left stranded in traffic, during late hours with absolutely no electrical power and my children in the car, it was impossible to wait to be towed in. They were unsafe situations that potentially had fatal results. I had to make the best decision at the time to protect my family. I am beyond frustrated with Chrysler for allowing me to leave the shop every time with no solution to the problem. My kids are afraid to get in van for fear of breaking down yet again. Five incidents with no resolution, no one knows how to fix the problem! a recurrent problem that can happen at any point- while on a highway or getting through a busy intersection.

We noticed on 12/28/2014, and currently still have, beads of water built up on the inside of one of the two plastic headlight lenses. This could be detrimental to being seen at night. Could the water also cause an electrical short which would disable the headlights?

The L touring town country, I have a automatic front light system that will lower the high beam to low beam if a car is coming in the opposite direction. We had a rain storm that I drove the car through I notice the instrument panel and radio lost power for few second. Couple days later driving at night I turn on the automatic front light beam system and few minutes later the front light, control panel, cab light and radio lost power for couple minutes. This defect could cause a accident if the driver is inexperience driver.

After turning on ignition, windshield wipers turned on highest speed, although switch indicated they were turned off, there were no lights illuminated on the instrument panel, the speed, temperature and message center was not working, radio was working but had no lights, air and heat panel was working, turn signals were not working. Appeared to be electrical or computer malfunction. Turned the vehicle off and on twice to attempt to fix issue, but same issue occurred again both times. On the third attempt of turning off vehicle and re-starting, switched on and off the light switches, wiper switch, turn signal indicators a few times, and lights and messages came back on. Concerned that possible computer malfunction may override operator's ability to control lights, turn signals, windshield wipers, and other safety necessities while vehicle is in motion. Software update/recall had been performed approximately two months ago.
