Town & Country Touring 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 138,000 miles

So the engine light came on one night driving home. When we got home, we shut the car off but there was a loud noise coming from the middle or rear of the van. In other posts I have read, it was like a fuel pump relay thing and it drained my battery completely. I have a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country with a 3.6L engine that there have been recalls for (with different model vehicles) with my same engine for a fuel pump relay (TIPM) Totally Integrated Power Module. Why is there a recall for just a few models of vehicles when clearly this engine is in several models that seem to be having the same issue?

The fuel pump was replaced and immediately now has a new problem... that the engine will not turn over. It takes several, several attempts for the van to even start. It is getting increasingly difficult to start. I fear soon, that it just may not start up at all! I think more people should file a complaint here and with the NHTSA as well so a recall can be issued and this problem will be fixed. It is a very well known problem with several different years, makes, and models of Chrysler vehicles. Also, my radio's volume just increases and decreases without anyone touching the volume control every once in a while.

Town & Country Limited 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 141,334 miles

This is a static part (no friction, movement, etc.) It is all electric. It should not fail. The cost of the part that failed, the fuel pump relay, should have been something on the order of $10. Instead, they require that the entire TIPM model be replaced. The cost of just the part was $930.00.

There was a settlement with Dodge and Jeep owners about this same part. Chrysler Town and Countries need to be included. It is the very same module used in all Chrysler vehicles.

This time, the dealer began to try to fleece me again. Since my extended warranty was over, I went to my regular mechanic, because I have never trusted this dealer.

The mechanic replaced the fuel pump. One day later, the battery went dead. I took the car back to the mechanic, but the mechanic tested and found out that the fuel pump was drawing juice when the car engine was off. This time, I decided to see the dealer. I went to the dealer, who held my car for three days. I informed the dealer in advance that the problem had nothing to do with the battery, because my mechanic tested the problem using a brand new Diehard battery that was also drained by the fuel pump. I made clear to the dealer that the problem was strictly electrical. Indeed, to stop the drain, what I did for more than two weeks was to disconnect the fuse box whenever I intend to park the car for more than two hours or overnight. Once I do this, the battery is not drained and the engine would turnover and start. Evidently, the problem was no longer with the fuel pump. Nevertheless, the dealer (Island Chrysler Jeep of Staten Island New York) proceeded to claim that the battery in the car needed to be replaced. After replacing the battery, it was also drained. The dealer then recommended that I replace the new fuel pump that I had just installed. I rejected the idea and went back to my mechanic, who now bought a fuel pump from the same dealer. The battery was drained again. Therefore, the dealer knew very well that this was not a battery problem or a fuel pump problem any longer. It is clear that the fuse box needs to be replaced. The dealer was hoping to make me buy a battery, a fuel pump and then a fuse box.

If the dealer had suggested to replace the fuse box, I would have gladly done that. I intend to sue the dealer.
