There is a little box behind the engine and it started leaking oil so bad within days. And it caused the engine to lock and now I need to repair engine. It has warning lights and they never warned about the oil being low. There was so much thick sludge when the mechanic took it apart. And now the expense to fix it.

I have a 2008 dodge avenger RT. IT uses 3 quarts in 3,000 miles. Dodge says this is normal. I say bullshit. I have a dodge ram 1500 hemi. It does not use a drop in 6,000 miles. If u look alot of people that own the avenger with the lifetime power train warranty. There r getting stuuf in the mail from the dealer ship they bought it from saying they r in high demand for there car. Bring it in for a real good trade in. I say dodge knows what is going on and they r trying to get out of fixing it. So I say if dodge doesnt fix this f*ck them. I have bought Dodge all my life but if they dont fix this CHEVY here I come.

The piston slap started over a year ago and took car to dealership and that's what they told us what is was. very costly to get fixed haven't gotten it fixed yet, because they told us we could drive it with an annoying noise, shouldn't hurt the engine. We do have to put oil in it quite often which is a pain. but to say the least this is the car i wanted and didn't expect to have chitty chitty bang bang!

I will NEVER buy another DODGE vehicle in my life. I currently have a 2010 Dodge Charger RT love the car no problems at all -- but still won't buy another DODGE. Then I bought the 2008 Dodge Avenger R/T and I've had it maybe 4 months and have had to add 6 quarts of oil, and the stupid mechanics at the dealers are telling me this is normal. Your stupid people at the Dodge Consumer Care line are telling me its normal too.....I think you all are stupid, and I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to ever buy one of these cars. I called a local DODGE dealer and they told me that they have never heard of this type of complaint on a 2008 DODGE AVENGER R/T.....wtf? I pay enough for the vehicle in payments I shouldn't have to continue to put a quart of oil in the car every 1000 miles or monthly.....that is just ridiculous. And if other people that own the 2008 Dodge Avenger are having this problem why don't I see further complaints on the website and why hasn't my local Dodge Dealer ever heard of this and why hasn't their service department ever recorded anything like this?

I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger R/T with the H.O. 3.5 V6. It now has 50,000 miles on it and it burns a quart of oil every 1000 miles. i tried to contact Dodge about it and you think they'd do anything? Yeah right. How ridiculous is that? I also have a 1998 dodge stratus with 225,000 miles and it doesn't use a drop!
Update from Apr 28, 2010: Well, I replaced the PCV valve on this car and so far so good. No more oil being consumed. If it is using oil, it's not as noticeable.
Update from Jul 12, 2010: Ok, so my mechanic says that Subaru had the same issue with the oil consumption on their vehicles, problem was the rings sticking on the piston, he says to use a can of BG 109 to loosen them. Apparently, that is what subaru was doing. He strongly advises to follow the directions with this stuff!

Super crazy, at least every 3rd fill up need to add a quart of oil as long as I'm driving local, but if I need to go from state to state, I just buy oil before I leave for the trip...No word from the dealership of why, only no one else has reported this issue, knowing they are lying.
