On August 6, 2011, my car suddenly started to make a whinning noise when I would accelerate and when the car would decelerate, you can hear it get a little louder. This time, I brought the car a local mechanic instead of the dealership. Every time I bring the car in, I am told it is a 105 buck diagnostic fee just to look at it. My mechanic says that the idler pulleys are bad and the alternator pulley is bad. He says that my alternator was still in good shape though, and he can convert the alternator to a convential. He said the only other way to fix it would be to replace the whole alternator which wouldnt make sense to me since the only thing bad in it was a pulley.
The whining noise is now gone after replacing the alternator with a conventional one. This car has given me plenty of problems and I wish i didnt owe as much as I do. The brakes and rotors have been replaced twice and I have had the car almost 4 years next month. I also had to have a sensor replaced in April that cost 200 bucks. I just dont understand.

Not exactly sure when the problem started but i kept noticing a whining noise when i would accelerate and decelerate. There are times when it would just completely quit but also times when it would get louder, enough to hear it over the radio. I wish I knew what the problem was but I can't afford to take it to a mechanic or even be without a car. I can fix it myself but I need to know what the problem might be. So frustrated I don't know where to turn. I have a Dodge Stratus with 104,000 miles on it and have never had a problem with it, that's why I bought another Dodge thinking I was safe from aggravation, I think I might have been wrong, I hope not because I really like this car and would hate to have to trade it in and owe more money. Somebody please help I would appreciate it.
Thanks
