I have had a problem with the TRUNK LEAKING ever since I bought the 2011 DODGE AVENGER-HEAT!! When it rains, somehow my trunk fills up with water, then when I open it up the water just pours out of the lock/latch causing my things to get soaked! THIS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!! So I have to open the trunk part way and let the water drain out.

I have taken my car to the dealership at least 3 times. The 1st time the dealership was confused as to how would my trunk fill up with water? I thought it was coming in from the screws on the spoiler. But the dealership looked it up and decided it was from the small brake light cover. I continued to tell them there was a lot more water then what that brake light cover could let in. But they replaced the center brake light cover and sealed it. I was told that if I still had an issue I should bring it by when it's raining, so they could get the full effect.

Next time it rained I stopped by to have the tech inspect my trunk full of water, He then decided that it was probably where the spoiler was attached that was causing the leak, so he made me an apt and ordered a new spoiler. I followed through with the apt. and they replaced the spoiler. Well that seemed to of slowed the leaking down? Or maybe the weather got better?. Anyways, when it started to rain again, my trunk lid started to fill up with water again. I could hear it slosh around inside the trunk and when I opened the trunk it would just pour out the latch inside the trunk area. Causing my books, clothes & carpet to get soaked! The water would soak all the way through to the spare tire storage tank.THIS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!

In July 2014 my 3 year or 30,000 miles Warranty expired and of course this winter my trunk is filling up with water and leaking out the hatch again, so I took it to the dealership and they tried telling be that I should buy and replace the screws to the spoiler, as that's most likely where the water is coming in. So the screws cost around $40- and woo hoo, he wasn't going to charge me labor. But why should I have to pay anything to fix this ongoing issue?? During this visit one of the mechanics came out and took a look at my trunk. He then said, well for starters let's pull these rubber stoppers out located on the inside corners of the trunk lid. He said those are suppose to be open as they are drain ports. Since then things have gotten a lot better!! Most of the water is draining out those ports. Although I still do have some water that flows out of the trunk lock. Just nothing like it was.

Water drains directly into the middle of the trunk when the rear deck lid is opened during wet conditions, especially when opened to 90 degrees or more. The water falls short of the rear trunk gutter designed to catch and channel it away. This occurs in the middle of the upper rear deck. The seal around the upper portion of the trunk needs to be redesigned to catch the water that falls short of the seal and flows directly into the trunk. Simple redesign for a simple but annoying problem.

If more people experience this problem and complain, Chrysler will issue a recall to fix this problem. If your trunk gets wet when the lid is opened please complain through this channel and Chrysler at 1-800-521-9922.

This is not the known rear deck lid drain plug problem which I also had and was resolved by removing the drain plugs.
