I had stopped at a flashing stop light and proceeded to go through intersection when car stalled and I was hit by oncoming car and totaled the Caliber. I had no control over the situation...it all happened so fast. The result was I was charged for failure to stop. I had person in car with me. She received bruises, but no broken bones. My collar bone was broken and the who hit me received no injuries. They told the highway patrolman that I ran the stop sign and to them it looked like I did, but it was not my fault, but the faulty engine in the Caliber. The car was totaled and my car insurance went up. I really feel that an injustice was done, but that's out of my control. In the end God will have the final say, but thanks for the opportunity to vent my frustrations here. It may help other individuals in their decisions to purchase a Caliber. The low mileage on vehicle indicates that we had driven it very little in the short time we had it.

After two other attempts, over $200, and a very high risk of a collision after the engine unexpectedly stalled, I had another terrifying trip trying to to get the car to the dealership. The dealership, Curtosey Chrysler in Brandon, Flordia, was rude, and unaccommodating and after keeping the case almost two weeks without any notice, still never fixed the problem but charged me anyway. The reason for this abusive treatment is that I am in a Chapter 13 and am unable to trade off the car, so that dealership will have nothing to do with me.
I drove to Jim Brown Dodge who is attempting to fix the car. After repeatedly stalling suddenly in multi-lane traffic, stopping, restarting, over fifteen times, I finally got the car to the dealership. I am sure the repair will be costly, with my limited means to pay I am worried and scared. Dodge should encourage all of their dealers to show respect for customers regardless of their financial status. They should stand behind their products, especially where safety is concerned, having a car to suddenly stall in traffic is an extreme hazard.

Over the last 12 months the vehicle has shut off while driving around a corner at both high and low speeds three times. The real issue was the loss of power steering and the possibility of being rear ended on the off ramp of the interstate. It is interesting in that they ignition switch moves slightly from the on position thereby killing the engine. If you take the hanging down portion of the keys with the key in the ignition and engine on and slightly tug down on the key chain the ignition switch turns off. This does not happen to the 2009 Chrysler Sebring ignition switch only the 2011 Dodge Caliber ignition switch. After significant search via the internet with similar problems noted I only found one real solution that has been implemented with the vehicle. I removed my wife's significant number of keys that hang from the key ring and thus the ignition switch. In theory the thought is that while turning a corner the swinging of the heavy key rings set causes the ignition switch to turn off. So far so good. This does not fix the issue with the design of the switch that can still be turned off with a slight downward tug on the key while in the run position, but in this case maybe removing the pendulum affect of a weight at the end of the key ring will not cause this issue. The ignition switch should be recalled and replaced.

I just purchased this car in April of 2013, and I can not believe that a car only two years old is having engine problems already. The car will stall with out warning, it has stalled on the high way, side streets, turning corners, and on a hill. This is unsafe and very disappointing. I really need some help on what to do next, seems like I've been sold a lemon.
