About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
This is the area to refer to for description of the problem I am having with my car. I have owned this 1995 Dodge Caravan since Feb. 1998, and have had the oxygen sensor replaced 4 times since then (the last in late March 2000), and am about to have to replace it for the fifth time. I have taken the car to 3 different shops, and they are not able to find out why the oxygen sensor keeps failing. It costs $100 - $200 each time to get it replaced, and the problem is appearing on the average of every month-and-A-half now, so I am looking at spending $1200 / yr just to replace oxygen sensors. This does not take into account potential accident costs. When the oxygen sensor starts going bad, our car does not react to the accelerator being pressed right away, so we instinctly press harder. When it finally reacts, the car surges forward. It is only a matter of time before someone in my family gets hurt or killed as a result of this problem. Please help me find a solution to this problem!
