YA know,it's a real freakin pain in the ass, when you only have one vehicle and it's constantly having to get fixed. This problem kept happening to me and i figured oh,it will snap out of it,it;s probably just old.Well all of a sudden all the gauges quit working. So now i never know my speed, how much gas i have,or even the temp, ohhhhhhhhh, this make me so mad,i just got my van out of the shop, about a month ago and it was in there for a couple of months getting repairs and body work, now this what's next?I know how to handle the problem,so i have decided to sell it!

I got a 96 Dodge Caravan from my in-laws. I loved it at first, but then things started going wrong. First, the AC quit working, then the electrical on the dash shorted out. This leaves me with no headlights and I have no idea how fast I am going. Then the transmission started leaking fluid, i mean a lot of fluid. I put a quart or two in every other week. Any ideas?

The 1996 Dodge Caravan is a Nickle and Dimer for sure....the latest issue was intermittent loss of instrument cluster gauges....on 3 different occasions during the last week the odometer, fuel gauge, speedometer and temperature gauge would lose power while all other electrical circuits were working......no blown fuses....I knew this would turn into a pricey dealership/Sherlock Holmes adventure so I hit the Web and found similar complaints here on www.carcomplaints.com.....As it turns out the problem can be resolved with the two handed slap to the dash mentioned by the other members.....that's right, a hearty two handed slap on the dash and I watched the gauges come back online.....I know this is not a permanent fix, but I do know I'm searching for loose connections in the instrument cluster.....Thanks AutoBeef!
