My air conditioning quit working - compressor and evaporator coil both went out on my 1999 Dodge Caravan about a year ago. I have not got the money to fix it so it is still out. In my entire life I have never had this happen in any vehicle. It's ridiculous.

Van began leaking oil and making loud rattling noise. Mechanic found air conditioner fans to be loose and close to falling apart. Mechanic found a heavy oil leak coming from the cylinder head gasket. Mechanic felt this kind of major repair shouldn't be need for a vehicle of this year and mileage. Mechanic called to find out if any recalls exits for such a problem. (they dont) also called mckenna Dodge(place of purchase) to find out if this was a new problem. Mechanic was told they were seeing at least 3 vans with the same problem every week. Mckenna Dodge felt cheap falty parts had been used and now the negative results were showing up.

The air compressor can be heard every 3 to 5 seconds while the vehichle is being driven. It started at 200 miles the dealership wont even look at it, they just keep saying its normal. An independant said that it should not make that much noise. You can also hear when the compressor door opens and closes and turn it on and off. The brakes make a knocking noise when you apply them in slower traffic. The transmission slips in traffic around 40 to 50 mph and then when you begin to accelerate again.
