problem #1

Caravan 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,963 miles

Van started making a whining noise and transmission was shifting erratically. Took it to local transmission shop to get it checked out. Computer showed nothing. So mechanic took it for a drive. He asked if he could pull the pan. When he pulled the pan he found metal shavings all in the bottom of the pan. After removal and dismantle of the transmission the diagnosis was that the cheap bearings in the torque converter failed and metal shavings from inside the torque converter destroyed the output shaft and the pump as well as all the sensors and the computer. So my options are. A put a used transmission in and take a chance on how long that one would last. B put a brand new transmission in at the cost of $3200 and has the same weak parts as my old transmission. C pay $2500 and have my transmission rebuilt and bullet proofed. I decided on C as I have 4 years left to pay on this piece of crap van. I don't recommend this van. Junk. But if you have one and you have this problem get them to up grade everything inside(bearings etc.) I also got them to put a mild shift kit in it as well as a transmission cooler for extra security.
