Caravan SXT 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

I have corrected my problem, for how long only time will tell, but after checking your and other sites I felt obliged to write on this site because nearly all comments on this site were suggesting ALL Dodge Caravans were all crap. I have a 2004 Dodge Caravan SXT with low mileage. I had been out of town for two months and upon my return I re-connected the battery and removed the jack stands from under the vehicle and upon starting and test driving the vehicle the driver’s side power window failed to go down.

Next to a ’74 Toyota which I had for 8 years, this vehicle is perhaps the most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned. We’ll see how long my fix will work but an AutoForum site suggested I hold the switch in the lower position and slam the door a few times. My window started operating after the fourth slam. From other information provided on the other site, my problem is probably dirt or corrosion between the brushes and the commutator on the power window motor.

This vehicle has been relatively problem free for 7 ½ years, hopefully the door slamming fix will work for another 7 ½ years, but if not I have a good idea it’ll only take cleaning the power window motor to create a more permanent fix. To all you people that have had less than pleasurable experiences with your Dodges, I wish you better luck in the future and I hope my good luck continues, but thank you for allowing me to vent.

Power windows are cheap crap. The window came off track partially and would jam going half way up.

Caravan

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,600 miles

Every time I turn around, there is something wrong with this van. This is the third dodge caravan that we have purchased, and it will be the last. It has had transmission problems at 40,000 miles. Problems with the suspension at 42,000 miles. The water pump went at 50,000 miles. Now the damn driver's side window stopped working. I am so fed up with this damn van. I purchased it brand new, and they obviously do not make quality products.
