headlights go out for no reason

About 1 year ago, the headlights on my 2006 Dodge Caravan went out while driving at night. I thought I bumped something or did something so I flicked the switch back and forth and they came back on. My husband reported it happened to him as well but he also thought he just didn't have the switch all the way on. We've had it looked at by mechanics but we could not duplicate the problem. Where we live there's a lot of backroads, turkeys, deer and walkers (pedestrians not zombies) and when the lights go out, it is PITCH BLACK and there's no berm to pull off, not that we could see it anyway. 1 year later, it happens every night now. I have to play with the lights and flick the lights switch and the high beams. It's terrifying when my teenager is practicing night driving. I can't tell you if the dash lights stay on or the rear lights stay on because it's so terrifying, all you want is the lights back on. It happens without warning with no particular incident or event occurring.
