- replace fuse box under hood (2 reports)
I opened up a can of worms when I wanted to get the horn fixed. The problem was related to the fuse box that is located under the hood besides the battery. The location of the fuse box allows water from the hood and fender to run onto the box and corrode the contacts. The fact that this box is not sealed to prevent any kind of dirt and debris to enter the box does not help.I was told that it would eventually affect all the electrical components of the car. Sure enough. Later on the airbag light came on, the seat belt light started chiming (we were all strapped in!), engine light came on, there was trouble getting the windows to open etc. I eventually replaced the fuse box (with thte same one so I will be ending up replacing it again down the road) at a cost of over 600,-. Apparently the dealer keeps 10 of these boxes in stock as it is a common problem. I called Chrysler to see if they would do anything about it but all I got was "we will inform you if there is a recall". I will never buy a chrysler again. I seem to be replacing stupid stuff on these vehicles. Things you would normally never replace.I had to fix the automatic sliding door as there was a broken wire and done all the suspension work on the front end. lets not even mention brakes as these are crap too. Keep in mind, this is a 2007 with 136000 clicks on it. I have spent more than 2000,- in the last year on a vehicle that is less than 5 years old. Complete junk!

Horn stopped working...Even when locking doors it did not go off as normal. Had steering column removed did not resolve the issue. It was finally tracked down to the main fuse box under the hood. A VERY expensive box to replace. It seems this is a common issue on these Dodge Caravans as water and moisture corrodes the inside terminals. I was told at the garage they would have to reprogram the brain but that was not even true. SO I replaced it myself. You can do it just disconnect the battery first. Shop around you can find the fuse box for less.
