The Gen III hemi has an inherent design flaw in which the rollers making contact with the camshaft will fail, causing damage to the camshaft and causing the engine to misfire. This is due to the camshaft being moved away from the crankshaft as it causes oil starvation. After extensive research it appears to affect cars of various miles and workload. There is no single cause that makes this happen other than a grievous design flaw. The main complaint is that you experience total power loss at higher revs, making it dangerous to drive on the interstate or attempting to merge into traffics as the engine begins to shudder and lose most power. Whether it-??s 40K miles or 110K miles, the flaw does not discriminate. After numerous attempts to reach Chrysler technical service on how to prevent this, I-??ve been ignored and case numbers deleted. Now this is very important. This causes a misfire which not only destroys catalytic converters, but arrives with no notice. It-??s very possible someone may be attempting to pass someone on the interstate and suddenly lose power. My mechanic inspected it and confirmed that the rollers failed, causing causing lifters to not make proper clearance. This needs to be investigated as this engine is in millions of cars. And even if 1% of these failure occur on an interstate, the potential for fatalities is absolutely nothing to ignore. I kindly ask that this matter be investigated. As not everyone can afford the 5K to fix this problem like I can. And due to its high prevalence in trucks, this could cause those who use their trucks for work to be put in a tight spot. I understand normal wear and tear, but by no means should a cam and valve train fail this soon in a car. Giving the Gen III hemi by Chrysler and their infamous timing chain defect, I believe this is also a dangerous flaw and something Chrysler ignored. Hoping it would outlast warranties. Best regards.

Car has stalled several times while driving above 60 mph. Seems like loses power and fuel pump shuts off. Had to pull over and restarts with no issues. Kind of dangerous when you lose power to brakes and steering too.

2014 timing belt was recalled and apparently repaired. Car shut off in the middle of the highway and then engine seized. Had it towed and service said it was timing belt again and now engine needed to be replaced. Called Dodge, they said there is nothing they can or want to do.

A recall was performed in 2015 regarding a timing chain failure. This car sat in a dealer lot for an extended period of time. I purchased the vehicle and rarely drive it. A timing chain failure stalled me in the middle of the interstate. A chronic issue according to most forums, even after the recall was performed. The car has less than 73,000 miles on it and should not have failed regardless of months, of the fact that it was more than 24 months. It is a very low mileage car for the year and this is on ongoing issue from these vehicles from 2009-2012.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Challenger. The contact experienced difficulty with shifting to and from second gear, and the vehicle overheated and stalled several times without warning. An independent mechanic replaced the transmission seals, but was unable to determine a remedy to provide a permanent solution. The failure continued to progress and the vehicle was towed to martin Dodge Jeep Chrysler Ram (2209 scottsville rd, bowling green, ky 42104-4105, (270) 846-0600) to be diagnosed. The contact mentioned that the dealer replaced the computer once, but the computer failed again and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that further diagnostic testing was required and the part may no longer be available to replace the computer again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

The 6 speed transmission at 47,000 miles is having a very hard time shifting into and out of gear at idle. With clutch pedal all the way to floor it will not go into or out of first gear or reverse. After getting it into gear and driving the transmission shifts fine. There is a known issue with the clutch and grease used on this year model

Hello! hard shifting 6speed manual: I have been having shifting problems with my manual trans for a couple of months. It started back in Nov 11 when traveling out of town, got stuck in traffic and clutch started to not disingauge all the way (would creep) had to hold foot on brake or put in neutral even after pulling off the road. Latter when coming home baked into parking space turn key off wanted to put in other gear was very hard to pull out of reverse. Has gotten worse, it is getting harder to shift while driving. My wife went to get on the highway and had very hard time going into lower gear almost getting hit in the rear.Dodge says worn clutch, but it doesn't slip, but they have a notice about grease being on input spline thats the clutch slides on getting dirty from to much grease and dirt, making the disc stick not fully disengaging. This is a manufacturing defect, assembling line defect not mine. Been to two dealers and ask 4 about the problem.

When shifting into 2nd gear sometimes wont let the gear go into slot and have to force it in and out. Dodge has a star case #K38556860 but is not recalling this issue and forcing the buyer to pay for it out of pocket. The powertrain warrenty is out of date however there are so many of this issue online when you search for it that it seems Dodge should have already made this a recall since it seems the made the correct fix the year after.

When the vehicle was restarted, the warning signal light was not illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The result was a P0730-improper gearing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,500.

Hard shifting six speed manual transmission. When stopped the car fails to engage first gear and is also extremely hard to get into reverse. Been having this problem for a few days now and is getting harder to shift while driving.Dodge has a star case notice (star case # [xxx]-bad grease in the 2009 tremecs) about grease on the input shaft spline that the clutch slides on getting dirty from too much grease and dirt which makes the disc stick and not fully disengaging.this transmission is also in the new Chevy camaro and Ford mustang so it seems to be a widespread problem with the transmission manufacturer tremec. This is a manufacturing defect or assembly line defect and should be a mandatory recall before a serious accident with injury occur. Was driving on 4th of July for a holiday celebration. Shifted from 3rd to 4th gear at 35 mph and the shifter handle broke off. I had to very carefully turn around and drive home with this broken shifter handle. At one point the handle came out of the mount and I had to find the hole again for the shift handle with the dust boot obscuring my view while driving. Since it was a holiday weekend I decided this was a time to replace the shifter handle with the hurst shifter handle supplied by Dodge as a part of my auto purchase using mopar bucks. After I installed this stronger shifter/handle I took my car in to the dealer to show them the obvious safely hazard from the broken shifter handle. The dealer took this opportunity to ridicule me and make it appear that I must have done something wrong to break a part like this. I asked them to contact Dodge to notify them of a safety hazard and they would not do this. They told me my vehicle was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. I believe the weak alloy in Dodge original manufacturer shift handles should be removed from production and replaced with stronger steel like the shift handle supplied with hurst shifters. I believe the engineers at Dodge need to know these parts are breaking from regular use. This is a safely hazard. I have the broken shift handle for inspection if anybody in interested.

After restarting, put the car in drive and it would not move. After a few seconds transmission engaged and car was functioning. Could have been much more dangerous.

Traveling uphill-slight incline- at approx. 55 mph on canyon road when engine light came on, flashed. Then all dash light indicators came on as engine failed. Coasted off to side of the road, where I was stranded with no cell service. Able to get help from a Chrysler service rep who happened to have a computer for diagnostic purposes. Computer indicated "cam shaft sensor failure". rep advised remove sensor, look to see if "gear" turns when engine is cranked. If gear turned then timing chain ok, and it was just a bad sensor. If gear didn't turn then the timing chain broke. Vehicle towed home and sensor removed. Gear didn't turn when engine cranked, so the vehicle was then towed to dealer. Dealer confirmed timing chain broke- also damaged several valves. Covered under power train warranty at the moment.

Driving on the freeway home late from work at 65 mph, without warning, the engine stopped. No power, no power steering, no power brakes. Put car in neutral to try and restart: Would turn over not start. Had to get to the right shoulder expeditiously and was stuck there w/ a concrete barrier to my right. Car would not start, with 18 wheeler big rigs blowing by me at 65 mph stuck in the car. Extreme danger. Had to get it towed 16 mi. To dealer at 8:30 pm. Extreme safety issue to me and commuters around me--dead car, no warning, while driving on the freeway. Please address with Chrysler Corp. As this is a known extreme safety issue!!! took to dealer and said the timing chain broke. Huh" at 36,500 mi.?"!! completely unsafe and unacceptable. I personally will not trust this car ever again--getting attorney and will lemon this thing for my family's, and fellow commuters' safety, and, imho, the NHTSA should investigate and force a recall. Clearly Chrysler is not addressing the issue and putting the public's safety at risk. Now that the NHTSA knows about it, they too must address this issue, or, be complacent and implicitly responsible for any deaths or injuries resulting from this fatal, widely known--search google for "Challenger R/T timing chain failure"--design flaw. Thank you for addressing this extreme safety issue.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted after a considerable amount of time and the failure recurred numerous times. Each time the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but no cause for failure was determined. The manufacturer was notified and they dispatched a mechanic, who rebuilt the transmission and replaced two of the computers. The failure recurred six months later. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 7,000 and the current mileage was 51,000. Updated 6/17/13 the consumer stated the vehicle shift off several times while making turns, and then it would take a while for it to re-start. Also, the transmission seemed to go into neutral at times when changing gears. On one occasion, the consumer smelled an odor of burning wires. The dealer replaced the radio and fuse box. The vehicle would start and when it was put in gear, it would stall.
