I took the 2006 Dodge Charger to the Dodge dealer and they kept it for two months. They still didn't find a problem so we tried changing the gas and that didn't work. Changing the plugs and wires didn't work and the dealer still couldn't tell us what was the problem. Some times you crank and help make a drum noise and cut right back off.

My shop threw a tune up and injector flush at the problem and it helped for about 60 miles and then came back. No codes were thrown so it was hard to find the problem. It is/was a life threatening event. I am retired so I didn't have to drive to work in heavy traffic. It started stalling when I would leave a stop and travel about a car length before dying in front of on coming traffic. It usually started right up and I could move on. A tune up may have helped some but I don't think that was a help, just throwing money at the problem. My money.

It stared again when pulling in to a stop, like at the store parking lot and at the stop light/sign. It became worse, stalling three to four times in a row. The service advisor at my shop drove the car and it happened with him and some of their technicians. The shop had the car for three months in total. Their work was under a warranty and I was easy on them to work the car in as they could. I had to increase the pressure after no activity and the shop brought the car to the front burner. I could not find the problems as they had no codes to guide them. I think they were at their wits end as technicians at the Dodge Dealership had the same problems in the past and had no clues as well.

During a test one tech tapped the ECM with a hammer and it died on the spot. At that point they told me I needed another ECM. I sent it in myself to the Car Computer Exchange and got the ECM re-flashed and it was stalled once again. I took it home and haven't test driven it much since as I am planning on selling the car. After two catalytic Converters, a power steering pump, bearings packed three in 2K miles, an alternator, major tune up, and door actuator replacement, I am through with Chrysler/Dodge. They are Money Pits, in my opinion.

This is an awful thing Dodge manufacturer produced. the company is fully aware of these problems from 60,000 to cars with 130,000 and they never offered a recall.

Then as an owner of this car Were spending allot of money to not get the issue resolved,

I took mine to the DODGE SERVICE to be fixed, They put the $1200.00 TCM in and it still has the same issue.. They then tell me as they told me prior to the TCM that if that does not fix the problem then I will need perhaps a ECM and that is also $1200.00 My issue is I don't feel good about doing ANY work on this Charger because its listed on too many web sited of other owners with same problem, and they have replaced these and also Catalytic and then Fuel Injectors and On and ON and on..

HOW on This EXPENSIVE EARTH where it takes everyone in the household working (Even the Dog) to afford to eat, so How does a Mechanic shop not know what's wrong??????? FINE don't do a RECALL but at least give us a Coupon for FREE CORRECT DIAGNOSTICS! But the DODGE DEALER charges $135 just to guess at what's wrong with it! Even the hometown mechanic shop has to charge for diagnosis THESE cars because there won't be any diagnosis ..NOTHING WILL FIX YOUR CHARGER. You will have to embark on taking every this in in out and replacing all of them, If possible with a CHEVY engine and transmission

I bought this car, had it serviced twice now, the third time I want a different car. I have kids and this car shuts off on the freeway, does not discriminate. This is a very unsafe dangerous situation and what's more scary is they can't seem to pin point the problem and that's not a reassuring feeling. I bought a different piece of sh*t vehicle, so much of a piece of sh*t vehicle that it does not get me to forks, wa and that's why I bought this charger, well sh*t this car can't get to forks now. This car might seem nice on the outside but my piece of sh*t 99 blazer is actually better then the charger smfh. My kids can't see their father, no bus or uber can get me to forks, so paying for a car that is clearly unsafe and dangerous is a f*cking waste nobody seems to care. I hope I will find someone who does. I stopped paying on the insurance cause it doesn't do me any good. I make my payments and if I wasn't married I would say f*ck this car. But I actually care and just want someone to care about my kids and me and this situation. I know this isn't a problem for others to care about but you tell me who cares so I can speak and do good business with them.

the 2006 dodge charger 3.5L HO stalls without warning restarts whenever it feels like it sometimes not at all,

on the highway the car stalled while driving the thunder bolt appeared and the check engine almost got hit and could of been killed.........had to put it back in park wait about 30 sec to a min and it restarts like nothing happened then again when it feels like it at a stop sign or while driving stalls and off again ,NO codes show. the mecanic of Over 30 years Exp With DODGE tried everything from reflashing and reprogramming tcm/pcm,fcm ,tested fuel pump,valves,checked the can bus,throttle body,sensors,ignition coils,sparkplugs,fuse,relays the whole works still No Answer to the problem, 6 weeks cars in the shop and still no answer


Update from Sep 12, 2016: just changed throttle body,oil pressure sensor,Fcm fuse box,reprogrammed with the latest updates and still same stalling problem out of nowhere its an Embarresment and Insult to all DODGE CHARGER OWNERS.... DODGE NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE A LIFE IS TAKEN AND A SERIOUS LAW SUIT WILL HAPPEN (PREVENTION)

This is very scary and speaks loudly of Dodge for not addressing the problem. The first time my 2006 Dodge Charger stalled I was entering onto a busy highway and was almost rear-ended by a semi- I had my daughter age 9 and two of her friends in the car. Ive been driving the death trap, waiting for whatever the problem is to take its toll, so I wont have a fortune in the guess work of what Dodge cant even address. I cant sell the vehicle, which only has 72,000 miles on it. DONT BUY DODGE

In April of 2013, I bought a brand new looking 2006 Charger SRT8 with 14,000 miles on it. It now has just under 40 on it and in that 26k miles, the ebrake handle has broken off in my hand, the vents in the top of the dash came undone, a plastic piece in the transmission broke, the battery started dying and caused the engine, transmission, and instrument panel to go haywire until it was replaced. The most awesome thing though, is that I will every so often be stopped at a light and the engine will just shut off. It usually starts back up, but for a car that cost 50k new with less than 40k on the clock, these problems are ridiculous. I was using this site to research cars for my son, but saw all the other complaints about my car and figured I would pile on. After seeing the impending piston breakage, I am selling ASAP!

I can be driving and all of a sudden my car dies out. I have had a full fuel injection cleaning done. I have had the fuel lines all cleaned out which cost me $150. Now, the other issue is sometimes I get in my car and it want start right off and then it will start. It seems like it has to think about what it wants to do. I also have an issue with starting the car then it may shut off and after a few tries it will then start. I do not have any lights that come on to tell me anything.

Update from Oct 7, 2015: I have another issue with my steering column. My steering wheel makes noises like a hollow pipe when it gets cold outside like now. I have tried numerous times to having the steering wheel removed and the mechanics never see anything wrong. They said it must be a warranty issue. I have done this several times and it still does this. It has gone on for the past 3 years.

I was running errands and stopped by a store for no more than 15 minutes. When I returned and tried to start my car it sounded like a diesel truck starting which resulted in it stalling seconds afterwards. I tried to start the car again with the same result. I called a tow truck and had the car towed to my dealership. Expecting to hear the problem was a crankshaft position sensor or start module issue was not at all what I received as a response. The dealer explained the #4 piston had fractured and the top of the piston actually separated and damaged the cylinder wall and cylinder head. I could not believe what he was telling me as it was running perfect before I had turned it off?

My car has 76,000 Kms on it and quite frankly was a very reliable car and pleasure to drive. My car produced awesome power and was so reliable. This seems to be a very common Hemi issue which Dodge seems to be ignoring and not correcting and compensate those of us who have trusted in their product. This problem is now costing me $8000 to install a new engine. From the sounds of it a class action lawsuit should be launched from the number of people dealing with this issue.

engine died while driving

My problem was like most posts for 2006 Dodge Charger R/T 5.7, "engine stalls" while driving at various speeds and weather conditions (with no codes).

My solution to the problem was to replace the engine computer with latest updates. Since replacement, I have had zero stalls and no codes. It seems to be an issue with the computer going in/out without issue or cause. If the computer is working properly while dealer/mechanic is connected no codes will show or report.

The fix cost me $270.00 (part/computer) and less then 10 minutes to replace, and I'm no mechanic (Law Enforcement). Don't waist time and money replacing completely good working parts, while the mechanics get rich. I once again love my Dodge Hemi. What a beast on the road!

2011 (March) - had car towed into dealer several times over a period of 3-4 months where engine simply stopped while driving. Each diagnosis was something different like a bad fuel sensor, bad PCM, etc. Ultimately the engine was replaced at 67629 miles. This was ultimately caused by a #6 cylinder misfire/failure and consequential valves, pistons, seats...

2014 (August) - drove car into dealer with check engine light on. First diagnosis is a valve/cylinder repair and a few days later now engine needs replacement at 108264 miles at an estimated cost of $5500+. This was ultimately caused by a #4 cylinder misfire/failure and consequential valves, pistons, seats...

Bought a 2006 Dodge Charger RT Daytona 5.7 Hemi, the car was perfect on the test drive and I even drove it home and back to the dealer before purchasing and the car seemed fine. Not even a week after buying the car started noticing something wasn't right:

First thing I noticed was while driving home from work my headlights shut off without warning however this has not happened since. Instead now while driving on the highway the car will stall/die but only for a few seconds it will chime a few lights will flash on dash tach will drop to 0 but then its like the car just instantly restarts and continues to cruise on down the road. It did this just a few times into the second week of having the car. and it occurred more frequently as each day passed.

Second the car will die when driving at low speeds in town 0-35 mph or just idling in Park. I took it to a local garage and they said my plugs needed to be changed and that they where bad and that was causing it. Well, I had the plugs changed that didn't fix it. I called the dealer that I got the car from and had them take it into their shop. They had it for less than a day and said they fixed it by replacing a sensor in the transmission. I go pick up the car and it died almost immediately after leaving, so I took it right back to the dealer and this time they had it for a few days. They call and they say its fixed. Well, now its stalling even more then before! 23 times total from the dealer to my house -- about an hour drive. So this time they drive to my house and pick up the car themselves and they have it in the shop for almost 3 weeks. I just called yesterday (4/22/2014) and they tell me it is fixed and that the battery had been replaced and the PCM reset by a local dodge dealer. I went and got the car, drove it to work with no problems and it seemed to be fixed. But when I came outside on my break and started the car it ran for a few min in park and stalled. and did it once again after work.

I own a 2006 Dodge Charger Base police car, purchased from the OHP. This car ran fine for about 10,000 miles then it started to shut down like you would turn off the key, give me a crank shaft position light and come back on by itself, replaced the crankshaft position sensor to no avail, did the same thing except it blew the fuse to the coils and injectors. I loaded up the car after putting up with this for awhile and took it to the dealer, the dealer put his computer on it and found the blown fuse, replaced it, and said they could not find anything else wrong with it. I drove it home about 30 miles, nothing happened. That night while on patrol it did it again, again, again, again.

At this point I was really getting upset because it was getting very undependable for me as a law enforcement officer. If I was on a traffic stop with all lights going I'd look back and my headlights were going dim only to find that the car was dead, start it back up, die again. By the way I was charged $122.00 from the dealer just to hook up the machine and for them to tell me everything was OK.

I can go on on about his but to make a long story short, I contacted one of the local salvage yards to try and locate another computer for this car (guessing game at this point) Police Package, now that was not easy, we finally found one 400 miles away, had them flash it and do the updates to the p/n and vin and guess what, it has not done it since. Cost me a small fortune but the computer had a bad component in it which was causing the auto shutdown in the computer to shutdown the engine after it got hot among other things. Hope this helps whoever is having the same problem. By the way the rebuilt computer cost me $400.00 along with other charges to that point, so by the time it was over about $750.00.

And being that the current problem occurs most of the time after leaving the gas station it has made for a bad time. A few times it has died on the road while the car is still in motion ( my foot off the gas). and I'll till you what, it's kinda scary do to the fact that you loose power steering and can't pull off the road. This has happened 3 times.

Love my Hemi Charger, but one day, out of the blue ,I was doing 45 mph and it just quit running, No sputter, no shuttering ,nothing. I even gave it gas to see if the tach would respond, still nothing, Power steering and brakes went out and I had to fight it off the shoulder Then I thought I was out of gas as the gas gauge showed empty.( because the engine had died.) After starting it back up, I took it to my mechanic who put it on the scope , Nothing wrong with the car, began to think it was me, until I read other articles about engine stalls on other Dodge vehicles...I am not crazy after all and intend on telling my mechanic so.

This problem is happening more and more often and I don't have a clue as to what the problem is. The warranty has long been expired if it has nothing to do with the internal working of the engine I could repair it myself. I called the dealership and they want $200 to put it on the diagnostic computer. I cannot see spending that much for a problem that will cost less than 100 to fix. Has anyone had or have this issue?

i had a brand new 2006 charger never used before i was driving to a store when i came back the car wouldn't start at all it was a 5.7 engine and it was a hemi i took it to reedman and toll where they said it was rare and doesn't usually happen the piston went through the valve at first they said a screw might of fell through the engine but it ended up being a piston it cost 11500 for a new engine with a extended warranty since it didn't come with one.

The car just quit well driving out of town on a weekend for our anniversary. Had it towed to dodge dealer in Reno NV thinking we still had warranty (6 year 100000 mi). But no time was up before miles. After getting a rental car and driving home they called us and said it was going to be $749.00 to take the front of the motor apart to see what happen. I told them to go ahead. They called back and said the timing chain broke and needed a new motor at $9000 +. I told them no and went back and hauled it home myself. After looking over it only needed the chain kit which I will replace myself for $240. Just pisses me off that Dodge can't make it right after giving them $30000 +. Don't know if this problem happens a lot or not, but makes you wonder.
