This is an awful thing Dodge produced. The company is fully aware of these problems from cars with 60000 miles to cars with 130000 miles. They never offered a recall. We're spending a lot of money to not get the issue resolved. I took mine to the DODGE SERVICE to be fixed. They put the $1200.00 TCM in and it still has the same issue. They then tell me as they told me prior to the TCM that if that does not fix the problem then I will need perhaps an ECM and that is also $1200.00 My issue is I don't feel good about doing ANY work on this Charger because its listed on too many web sites of other owners with same problem, and they have replaced these and also Catalytic and then Fuel Injectors and on and on and on..
I recently had to give in and got to a mechanic near me he works on Mopars all the time. He said his diagnosis tool will tell him exactly what's wrong with it. I initially wanted him to drive it right then because I left it running as it was really acting up bad. Bucking, shutting off at stops, hesitating, trouble restarting. It's not the starter, it does not want to stay started. If you hold key on position, it goes through cranking over 3 times before it stays on. After paying him $700 it STILL does the same problem..UGHH
Please everyone that has been frustrated to no end with these DODGE problems EMAIL me at fix.alot@yahoo.com I am gathering together a list of everyone and will go forward with a Class Action Lawuit...I need thousands of similar cases otherwise there wont be any retribution from Dodge. Dodge Corporation MUST step up to this plate and recall these cars, or reimburse us!
I sank $6000,00 in this 2006 Charger and I have only owned it for 4 months. I should have bought a FORD to begin with. Or a Chevy! BECAUSE even DODGE SERVICE cannot find out what the problem is. After every service trip I pay them and the car still does everything it did before being serviced.
Where is the reimbursement part come in, I'm not talking a few hundred dollars to chase a ghost, I'm talking thousand or more each trip.. What makes mechanics get away with this, In the Dental Field, WE have to redo bridges, crowns, dentures UNTIL we get it RIGHT!
HOW on this EXPENSIVE EARTH where it takes everyone in the household working (even the dog) to afford to eat, does a mechanic shop not know what's wrong??? FINE don't do a RECALL but at least give us a coupon for FREE CORRECT DIAGNOSTICS! But the DODGE DEALER charges $135 just to guess at what's wrong with it! Even the hometown mechanic shop has to charge for diagnosis THESE cars because there won't be any diagnosis.NOTHING WILL FIX YOUR CHARGER. You will have to embark on taking every this in in out and replacing all of them, if possible with a CHEVY engine and transmission.

Basically, when you brake too fast or accelerate to pass another vehicle, the transmission disengages and you have to slow way down (15 mph) or pull off the road, shut the Charger off and start it up again. We went through the "stuck in park" thing in 2014 and there was a plastic clip broken in the shifter, so when they told me it would be $300 or so to fix it, I went online, bought the part and fixed it myself for $14.
Anyway, apparently (according to the mechanic) there is a sensor between the transmission and engine that controls the shifting function. He flat out said it would be a waste of time, labor and money to drop the transmission and replace the sensor. No recall. Now the left headlight is out and after replacing the bulb, the receptacle and harness, I am told that it has to do with the turn signal control and that it needs to be replaced. Granted, the car is old and well used, but weird crap has happened since the day I gave it to my wife - dash lights being freaky, rubber window gasket coming out, door gasket coming off, hood paint on the nose blistering and fading. Strange stuff. Anyway, it sounds like lots of owners have experienced the same stuff happening.
