When the Dodge Chargers appeared back on the market I just had to have one. I had purchased a 2007 Charger. I have not had any complaints from my vehicle until now. I was headed to work, turned the ignition, car started and attempted to place shift into R to back out of my driveway and the gear shift would not move from Park..I went into panic mode, OMG!!!! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO. Once calmed down I looked into the owners manual and read about the pink plastic thing.. I follow direction, however, nothing appeared to happen. I called the dealership to speak to a mechanic and for some odd reason they new exactly what I was talking about and advised it could be the pink thing($198) or gear sh*t($298). Currently, I have another vehicle to drive, however, I am still searching for some recalls or cheaper prices for these parts. I did find there is a recall on the gear shift but only for certain VIN's. That is awful!!!! It should be for all VIN's. Chrysler/Dodge you got to do better.

I've had this happen four times with this car. The first time it was still under warranty, it was about 2 months after I purchased it in July of 2010. The second and third time I'm not sure when they occurred. The fourth time I went to the shop, they informed me there was a recall on this very issue. I call Chrysler and they tell me the recall did not apply to my vehicle. So you mean to tell me the life of this particular part is only three years, because that's when it first happened? Is there a possibility they are making a mistake in not including my vehicle under this recall? How would I research that?

I guess I was cursed for cheering for the San Antonio Spurs at a clippers game at the Staples center. It was a great night, the Spurs beat the Clippers by 20 points, and mt fiancee was very happy. We got in my car to go home; I started the engine fine and when I tried to put it in reverse, nothing! It was stuck in Park. We grab the owners manual and tried that stupid pink button reset, and nothing worked. I guess I got too excited and pissed off that I broke the shifter trying to do that stupid pink button reset. Had to tow the car from LA to Long Beach. About 25 miles at 10$ a mile! Luckily my insurance has road side service and covered the first 13 miles.

I had the car towed from my place the following day, and the tow truck driver told me he tows a lot of Chargers with the same problem. The mechanic called me two hours after dropping it off and told me I broke the shifter. Well, I knew that part but wanted to know what else was wrong. They fixed the shifter and all of a sudden everything worked! I asked the mechanic what was intially wrong and he said the shifter gear must have been broken all along. I got lucky compared to some people here and my cost was $328.

Apparently Dodge/Chrysler likes to use defective parts for their shifters for a lot of their vehicles, as I see a lot of people have issues with this, on a lot of different models of cars. Chrysler did a recall for the 05-07 Dodge Charger LX for the SAME PROBLEM-- but they won't cover the R/T. If the recall covers the base model of the car, and the basic structure and build of the car is the same, the recall should encompass ALL 05-07 Chargers, regardless of engine size or cosmetic upgrades, provided the item in question is a basic structural piece of the car. Stand up and take responsibility, Chrysler. How do you expect consumers to continue buying American when you won't stand behind your work.

2007 Dodge Charger was stuck in park. No other problems or symptoms prior to incident. Discovered that Dodge Chrysler has a defective part in these cars called the Transmission Shifter Interlock Lever that was recalled on SOME models (notification code K39 – 2007 Dodge Charger model vin #s MDH062500 through 092113 & 2005 – 2007 Dodge Charger, Magnum & Chrysler 300 – MDH062423). However, other Dodge Chargers are not covered under the recall even though they have the same defective part (part # CEDTK390AA lever, Shifter Interlock). Instead, Chrysler wants the consumer to bear the costs for repair/replacement despite it being a design flaw. Didn’t we already bail out the auto industry and now they’re doing this?!!! We’re talking about a cheap ass piece of pink plastic that can go out at any time causing the car to be stuck in park. Plus, according to their service procedure on replacing this part, labor operation 21-K3-91-82 it should only be one hour of labor plus part which equated to the consumer as around $00 - $500! Really?!!! This is a widespread, well-known, highly documented (Google it!) defective part and NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ACROSS THE BOARD for ANY AND ALL vehicles equipped with such a low grade part. Really disheartening and pathetic when customers and their families want to “buy American” but get this as quality! Waiting to hear back from you guys @ Chrysler Dodge…..man up!

My 2007 Dodge Charger had 65 miles on it when I purchased it. I love the style, color, feel and purr of the motor. It's a great traveling car. I have had some minor issues, Plastic pieces broken off on door panel and side of front seats, which I noticed approximately a week after a service appointment. Also, a squeaky steering wheel and non-working windshield washer. I have to take to a Dodge dealer to fix the problems. I live 3 1/2 hours away from my trusted dealer. A couple of days ago I parked my car in parking lot at work. My 6 year old grandson spent the day with me, because his parents were at hospital awaiting the arrival of a new baby. He was hungry so I was going to take him out for pizza. My car started, but when I tried to shift into reverse, I was not able to. I tried a couple of more times to shift, with no success. I am not mechanically inclined, so I gave up, not wanting to cause any more problems. My husband and son finally arrived after 2 hours and were able to do a minor repair so I could move my car in to the warehouse at work. It's parked in neutral with the emergency brake on.

Took out the gear shift and removed the pink piece in question. Took me under an hour to do and the gear shift works great. And the best part of the whole thing is that i did not have to pay dodge a dime. It was a pretty simple fix and will save you upward to 500.00 dollars.

I usually owned foreign cars mostly acura/honda i went back to an american car when i seen the charger but i regret it when this got locked in park i called the dealer and he told me what to do by pressing pink button to reset and to my suprise nothing happened and its a good thing that my car was directly in front of my house, i was in the process of parking my car in my driveway because i was riding my motorcycle to AMERICADE at LAKE GEORGE for bike week.

'SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAS TO BE A RECALL THAT IS BULLSHIT IF I AM GOING TO PAY FOR THIS AND NO ONE SHOULD PAY FOR THIS I KNOW IM NOT THE BANK CAN GET THEIR CAR FROM THE DEALER AND DO WHAT THEY GOTTA DO, I WILL PAY THE DIFFERENCE WHATEVER THEY AUCTION IT FOR I DONT WANT THE CAR!! I returned from work the previous evening with no problems with my vehicle, the next morning when leaving for work, my car would not shift out of park, after reading the manual and trying the override switch, i contacted Dodge only to find the problem was with the little piece of plastic that was broken and was not a recall item. I do not have an extended warranty and have to foot the repair out of pocket, the manufacturer told me to save my receipts in case a recall was opened they would reimburse me,. Thanks Dodge!!!!

went to go to store on sunday car want get out of gear, i thought i didnt start up my car but i did. i said to myself what the f* is going on? im in a panic mode now i have to go to work on monday have to be there at 6am cant afford to be off. dealership is close its sunday what is there to do,i had to have my car towed to the dealers that cost me 120.00 dollars get a call from service dept my cost is 290.00 not including tax. not including my day i lost at work all because my car want come out of park due to shift assembly!!! then they had the nerve to say i needed 4 other things done as if i can go get money of a tree some where, ive only had my car for 7 months the warranty they give you does"not cover sh*t# so they say.

I just got home from work, went back out to get some groceries before my family goes out of town and my car was stuck in park. I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went online only to find out this is a very common problem with these cars. THERE HAS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS. OBVIOUSLY DODGE KNOWS ABOUT IT, SINCE EVERYBODY AND THEIR MAMA IS TAKING THEIR CAR IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I call a tow truck guy and he said the same thing, that he tows at least 4 dodge chargers a week for the same "stuck in park" problem. This is not a fluke. This is a DEFECT with a DEFECTIVE PRODUCT/PART. No questions about it. Dodge should really own up to it and correct this problem, instead of TAKING PEOPLE'S MONEY. THAT'S RIGHT, they're basically stealing people's hard earned money. (((RECALL, RECALL, RECALL)))

This is nuking Futs, went to leave when I got in my charger. I started it and could not get the thing out of park. I call a local dodge dealer they said it was the shifter an needs a new one. They said the part alone would be $317 I was like you're nuts. And asked how many have replaced and he told me they had at least a dozen. I asked, well doesn't that make you think there should be a recall on this crap. He did not have an answer now my car sits in the garage. This is a bunch of bull crap. Dodge needs to do something about it.

WOW I WAS ON GOOGLE SEARCHING COMPLAINTS ABOUT DODGE CHRGER'S CONSOLE SHIFTER. SO AMAZING TO FIND 112 COMPLAINT ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM W THE DODGE AVENGERS. OMG SOMEONE DAMN NEAR HAD THE EXACT STORY AS MINE WELL ACTUALLY 2 PEOPLE. DROVE MY CAR TO WORK THIS MORNIN NO INDICATION OF ANY PROB, GO TO LEAVE FOR LUNCH MY GEAR STUCK IN PARK, NEVER HAD ANY PROB SHIFTN TO REVERSE NOR DRIVE. NOW I HAV TO LEAVE WORK EARLY GOOD THING WEN TOW TRUCK FINALLY COMES HE SAYS ITS OK NOT THAT BAD, HE PULLS THE SILVER THING OFF THE CONSOLE OF GEAR N MOVE THIS LIL METAL LOOKIN WIRE AND BINGO CAR SHIFTS TO REVERSE. HAPPINESS ONLY TEMPORARY GET TO DEALER N MY QUOTE TO FIX $412.00. I FREQUENT THIS DEALERSHIP FOR ALL MY SERVICES FOR PAST COUPLE YEARS SO I WAS ABLE TO GET IT DONE FOR $266. THAT WAS COOL BUT THE JOB TOOK 30-45 MINS TO REPAIR, AGENT SAID IT DIDNT TAKE THE 2HRS THEY WERE TRYIN TO BILL FOR BECAUSE HE HAS DONE SO MANY OF THEM. In the shifting mechanism of a 2007 Dodge Charger there is a small pink piece of plastic that is hooked to a very strong metal spring. The spring is hooked to a tiny piece of plastic attached to the tiny pink plastic thing. Many, many people have had this piece of plastic snap off causing your car not to be able get out of park. It's appears to be a defect that never should have been. it's obvious that the small piece of plastic will break after awhile (a short while) and cause problems. it almost looks as if it was designed to fail, as the dealership will not sell you nor will they just replace the small pink plastic part. They will make you install an entire shifting mechanism. Seems like bad business to me. Already had a battery explode, passenger window motor go out, engine light is on, and traction light is also just came on. I have less than 30,000 miles on this car. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son got in his car after running into town to eat and when he got in started the car and oops it will not come out of park.. He popped the hood and pushed the button that he was told to do after talking to the dealership that had sold it to him and he might as well had been picking his butt.. The botton did nothing.. I had to have it towed to dealership and then get the phone call that it is the shifter assembly and that it has to be replaced and the cost is 400.00 + wow we had not even had the car 2 months.. I think that there should be a recall on this due to the fact that I was told that they had had to do this to 7 chargers already.. So I think Dodge should suffer the impact of the cost of fixing this problem instead of there customers.. You would think they would want to stand in good faith with there customers..
