Charger Police V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

MY 2011 POLICE CHARGER HAD A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN. THE ISSUE IS THE CONNECTOR TO THE LAMP ITSELF BECOMES HOT AND CREATES A BAD CONNECTION TO THE LAMP WHICH CAUSES HEAT AND OVER TIME BECOMES WORSE AND WORSE UNTIL THE LAMP BECOMES INTERMITTENT. IF YOU PULL OUT THE LAMP IT IS STILL GOOD EXCEPT THE ACTUAL CONNECTOR. ONCE THIS HAS HAPPENED THE CONNECTOR AND LAMP BOTH NEED REPLACEMENT. I HAVE DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND I AM TIRED OF GOING THREW THIS. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RECALL. OBVIOUSLY IT DIDN'T WORK

So, my Charger has melted yet ANOTHER headlight molex connector. I've had recall P08 performed by the dealership twice already (and replaced both molex connectors myself once before the recall was finally announced), this will be round three.

Just for grins I called the recall customer service number to open a case prior to going to the dealership. My logic was that since this recall has been listed "complete", I might get some push back from the dealership on doing the work again. Summary of their response is: FCA corporate culture is kick the problem to the dealerships, let their customers duke it out with their franchise owners, & say you stand by the product but actually don't take any responsibility for anything.

(oh, BTW, I had the full fledged alternator failure too. Catastrophic full shutdown with <60 seconds notice at highway speed). Of course, this happened before the recall on that, so I used aftermarket equipment there too. FCA reimbursed me 142 days after I filed (I had to call 3x to "find" the reimbursement request).

Anyway, I continue to be the sucker that loves his car but hates everything about the company that made it and the dealers that service it (when I have no other choice). I own the car, and don't have the financial flexibility to replace it before I run it into the ground.

FCA is doomed because of its horrible corporate culture, which results in poor engineering and poor customer service (guessing poor franchise relationships as well). The HUGE recalls they have going on now, and any more problems (like delayed product launches?) might take them out within the decade.

Charger SE 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Passenger side headlight went out, so I bought a new bulb. I discovered that the wiring harness was burnt and melted where it plugs into the bulb. I bought a replacement harness from local Dodge dealership for $76. The purchase actually included two harnesses, I couldn't buy just one harness, so I guess I have a spare now. Harness took me about 15 minutes to replace myself.

After a long day of talking to the customer assistance I got no where, I was told to take it to a dealership for inspection, so I did. The end result after 50 dollars was I put the light in wrong, hmmmm? There are two clips that have to be seated, which were, and yet I was to blame. I have put lights in my cars for 20 plus years, no issues, but somehow this one was the one that made the wire harness melt, hmm. Not my fault, it was in correctly.

I talked to the customer service three times and each time they said It was not a factory defect but on-line I have read hundreds of people across the US with the same issue, even police cars were taken back due the same problem. The customer service reps basically stuck there heads in the sand and would not help. I spent $18,000.00 for a car that after three months I have to spend $400 on to have them fix it. WHY, I am not sure? I am totally perplexed at the stupidity of some people.

I am very upset about this. So I will spend the next few weeks telling everyone I can tell that if you call 1 800 853-1403 the Chrysler service center, that they are not out for the customer, they are only out for the company. They do not give a rats butt about the little guy who buys cars from them. Totally upset,....
