Charger

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,970 miles

I bought my 2014 dodge charger brand new off the lot of Larry H Miller Dodge in tucson, AZ. By 13,978 my vehicle produced a burning smell, was driving very sluggishly and the "Battery Saver Mode" light was on. (not in the user manual but Dodge said its "normal"). So it was brought into Larry H Miller for repair. I was told the alternator needed replaced after 13,975 miles on the vehicle but my warranty covered it. I questioned why my alternator would go bad this quickly, they failed to answer the question directly. At 14,100 miles the vehicle was making the same exact smell, and the battery safer mode light was on AGAIN .This writer returned it to Larry Miller with the same complaints. They proceeded to tell me "it's normal", "we can't find anything", the manager even told me "dodge just didn't make the alternator big enough for that size engine, its a manufacturer flaw". (?) At 14, 432 miles, the vehicle was now not blowing cold air, the battery saver mode light was still on, the car smelled like burning suffer and the car was driving sluggish. I then opened a case with corporate to repair the vehicle. We decided together that I would give Jim Click Dodge a try. The first experience I had with them was wonderful. They took my car back, what seemed like they repaired it, and sent me on my way. The battery saver mode light continued to flash on. On June 17, 2016, my vehicle was driving sluggishly, once again and the engine light came on as well as the battery saver mode light. I called dodge customer service immediately and was assigned a case manager. I called Jim Click immediately to get my vehicle in, because a new vehicle was 23,900 miles should not have the engine light on for any reason whatsoever. Jim Click dodge claimed they could not get me in until July 1st and that I was "fine to drive my vehicle as long as the light isn't flashing". Um okay, I'm a 26 year old female not a mechanic but I am educated, I have family high up in the car business and I know that this is not professional, and not acceptable whatsoever for a new vehicle to be doing this. So I kept the appointment with Jim Click and brought the vehicle in for "repair" on June 1st. I drove a rental car from Friday June 1st, until Friday June 8th, I was informed the vehicle was ready, that the "cluster" in the dash was not reading and needed to be replaced. (?) NEW CAR (?) Also, that the batter saver mode was because of all this. (I was told last time that it was because the glove compartment had a component that needed to be opened to ventilate air.) Anyways, I trusted my service advisor and showed up to pick up the vehicle. I was told it was "all fixed". When the vehicle pulled up I got in and began to pull away as my entire dashboard went black. The speedometer was at "0" and the gas gauge was at empty and it was all dead black. I turned around immediately for obviously a dead dash is unsafe to drive? YOU CAN'T SEE YOUR SPEED OR MILEAGE OR ANYTHING! My service advisor apologized and brought it back and began to explain to me that it needed to be "reset" but that he'll order a new cluster "just in case". Are you kidding me? This is supposed to repaired, in the hands of Jim Click Dodge for an entire week and I drive away the car is STILL BROKEN. I get into my vehicle there is an "ERROR" sign where the milage is so I can't even see my vehicles mileage. I explained to my service advisor that I didn't feel comfortable driving this vehicle and he chuckled and said "its fine really, i'll order a new one but don't forget to take my survey". I expressed how upset I was about this entire situation and he said to me "okay i'm sorry but don't take it out on my survey, you'll be fine to drive it, it won't shut off". I get home I drive the car ONLY to work for two days and back which is about one mile away. I got in my car today, the entire dash shuts off. My car is now being towed to Jim Click dodge AGAIN. This car is a Lemon, and dodge treats their customers HORRIBLY.

battery safe mode battery safe mode

Since day one have had "battery saver mode" error message display in message Center. This happens 1-2 times a month. You simply clear the message, but I've experienced some issues with my electrical system. I was advised by my service Center that there was a recall on the 3.6 L alternators and that this was probably the issue. Well the recall is VIN # specific and apparently mine wasn't on the re-call list even though it has the alternator being re-called. I continue to have issues, but the service Center said the "codes" aren't being stored/registered in the system that "battery saver mode" has ever came on? Well it does. It's annoying and disrupts other functions. I'll be really mad when the battery completely dies and leaves me stranded. But with Chrysler: until it's smoking on the side of the road, or until my family of four is dead in a accident: "it's working". Get your stuff together Dodge! There has been battery saver mode issues since 2011!

Update from Sep 9, 2015: Had my car serviced at a new dealership. Since first service battery saver mode issue stopped for almost 7 months. It's started again, always when no extra power features are running. I take pictures to verify this message displays as my cars "system" is not registering that any of these error codes or messages have ever came up or been displayed. Well I have pictures.... Doesn't that mean the system is malfunctioning or not operating properly!!! I've had about 100 error or system messages: always, battery saver mode or remote start disabled. I have pictures of nearly every single one: but the system has never stored even ONE?! The only thing the cars system registered was that panic mode was pressed on key fob. Had many issues with this charger!!! I think its electrically based. Things are not normal Chrysler!! Oh sorry, fiat.

Charger Sxt Plus 3.6v

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,889 miles

Today I noticed a message from the message center of my vehicle stating the car was in "battery safe mode." After reviewing this issue, see that this is not an unusual problem. There are several concerns I have about this.

First, being a female, the service department will try to patronize me. Hate when that happens!! Am not an Automobile Guru but with my father being a mechanic for most of his life, I do know to 'speak car.' Am already anticipating a run around from the dealership, as that happened the last time I took the car in to be serviced.

Have read that the "Battery Safe Mode" is an indicator of an Alternator Problem. Have also read that unless the car simply dies, most dealerships will run their 'tests' and declare nothing wrong with the car.

The is the first Dodge Product I've ever bought, and now am having doubts.

Does anyone know a workable solution to my dilemma? I truly cannot afford to have a New Car that is not dependable.

Thanks!!
