About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
While driving and upon hitting anything in the road vehicle will make a clanking noise. Took vehicle to dealer to be looked at. Consumer had the shocks changed. However, it did not solve the problem. Contacted the Dodge dealer, and was told they needed the upper control arm.

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 2wd. I have a popping noise coming from the front end of my vehicle when making turns. I had the local Dodge dealership look into this for me and they say the source of my problems is the upper control A-arms. Since my warranty has expired, they can not service my truck.

Faulty ball joints on a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4X4 with 39,000 miles on it. My old Honda Accord sedan (1990) and my existing 1998 Accord have never had this problem at 150,000 and 90,000 miles respectively despite driving all the same roads. This thing is a truck and is often advertised as being "tough" and "rugged." Is Chrysler kidding? today, January 7, 2004, they are being replaced at my expense.
