About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Keys partly slip out of ignition causing electrical failures. While in motion, if you bump your keys with your knee or hit a bump in the road, multiple dashboard warning lights appear and gauges, including the speedometer, will give inaccurate or nonexistent readings. Cruise control and other systems may fail. Vehicle must be pulled over and turned off to clear the electrical failures. This failure can occur multiple times in one trip.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Dakota. While driving 45 to 70 mph, there was an abnormal noise. The accelerator pedal was applied, but did not respond. The contact had to apply force to the accelerator pedal. The vehicle randomly shifted from 2 to 4 wheel drive without warning. The vehicle was diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

Vehicle switched into 4WD by itself at high speeds occasionally. When the 4WD is engaged on dry pavement handling is reduced.

2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab V8 2wd. Vehicle has been to original dealer 3-4 times. Once to replace the rear brakes under a recall. At least 2-3 times to "fix" a rough idle and a miss at light throttle cruising speed. Original dealer called it a "fish bite." Is that a technical term I missed? another called it "beaming." I guess these are technical terms learned at big city dealer school. Driving at speeds from 25-85 mph truck seems to run rough. And also seems to have lost some power. Mpg has gone from 18.5 to 15. Have been told everytime "we reset the computer, nothing is wrong, ergo it is "fixed." Not finding a problem is not fixing it. Truck still runs rough at highway speed. Have also been told this is "normal." "they all do that." Funny how this has just come about in the past 3-4 weeks. But at least the brake problem has not come back. At least one other dealer is willing to look at it again and try to help. Original dealer has offered nothing. I really, really, really hate this truck.
