Wife's car. I am reporting the issue in hope something points us and dealer to a solution as this is still not fixed after 3 weeks. We have had the car for just over one year. Was a lease return with 20000km when we bought at the end of June 2017. Day after we brought it home it would not start. Dealer took it and flashed the computer EEPROM with some 'Patch' to fix it. No cost then. Been good for a whole year and absolutely loved this car for that year. Then a 'year to the day' we bought it June 25th 2018 the exact same thing started happening again. Had it towed on one occasion and has been in the shop twice in past 3 weeks. Symptom is the same. Car will not start on random occasions. All indicators normal when starting, dash lighting, etc, good. Engine continues to turn over but does not start. Battery diagnostics showed it has full charge and is good. Leaving car for 25-35 minutes eventually it will start. No engine lights or errors. Diagnostic scan at Dealer and 3rd party reveal no errors or issues. Happened 7 times in past 3 weeks and increasing in frequency. Today August 17th is 3rd time in a week. Have been stranded on way to work, at work, at the grocery store. Does not matter if the car is cold or warmed up and previously running. We have had the batteries on our Security fobs replaced, paid for a diagnostic scan once at dealer, and frustrated as this car is currently not reliable or trustworthy. BCAA guy today asked if we had a crank sensor issue. Others indicate maybe the security system is not picking up the fobs or has transmission or signal issues? I am lost as to what it is and just want this car working again.
Update from Aug 28, 2018: After a third visit to the dealer (who spend notable time researching testing on the car for no cost) the mechanic on a hunch said we should change the oil and filter. This because the issues cropped up 4 weeks after we had a 3rd party garage do an oil change on the car and Dodge tech suspected the oil and filter was not a suitable 'brand' name. (Dodge mechanic words). We did have receipt showing the proper 0W20 oil but so be it and we paid for another oil change after only 3 months. The car is working fine and no issues after 1 week driving. I am going to monitor the oil level very closely in case the car has an internal oil leak or consumption issue because dealer was evasive and did not answer the question when we asked if the oil was low. Still think something is wrong because if the oil is low or not flowing properly it should trigger a check engine warning which it does not. Also the fact the car turned off with no warning when driving in the dealer parking lot the day we dropped it off is telling of some computer defect or problem. If it is all related to the oil level at least we have a workaround for now.
