"park ring wears out and falls into tranny"

well,i have a dodge durango,its a 1999.had it for a year now.my tranny started acting up couple months ago with the damn thing not going into park.i talked to my mechanic and he said "on these dodges,and def the four wheel drives:the park ring wears-out and falls into ur tranny gears and stops it from going into park,and heres the killer part;he says eventually the reverse gear will do the same thing :( he says about $350 to fix it".he doesnt even have to take it out,thnk god,that would be more money...

well here i go .....just paid for rebuild tranny n it wont go into park still damn it....hate my durango hella bad now if it dont get fix soon ima blown it up and post it on dodge facebook to show that durangos are p.o.s......lost ten thousnd total in fixing it because the durango rides tuff but break down like a bbbeeeeeeeepppppppp................

Very frustrating! several weeks ago the Durango started having issues shifting between 1st and 2nd gear, about a week later i stopped for gas, when i went to start it it wouldn't start in park , i had to put it into neutral to get it started, i've had to do this ever since! not sure what the problem is but it is very frustrating!

99 Durango won't go into park.. checked tranny fluid level not problem also checked transmission shift cables in tranny all seem to be free.. Have no idea what the cause is. Can gently force it into park to lock ignition but it will not start in that position have to put into neutral to start

This is evidently a well known issue, so my question is why is this not on a recall list? If it is, why is it still an issue? This is a serious problem which has resulted in deaths and lawsuits because of this "false park". Anyone who has info on this please reply to this post. I would like to know how others have dealt with this and what it costs to fix it.

So, to add to the MANY folks complaining that the Durango doesn't go into gear, stutters, fails to accelerate, etc. I would also mention the problem plaguing my personal P.O.S. Durango - since my transmission problems (read - failure to shift + accelerate) began, I can not get the car into park - to park requires the emergency brake. This is not to say the gear doesn't work - it actually might, however, when attempting to shift into park - it won't - you just can't get there from here, short of stuffing my shifter into the engine compartment. There seems to be some misalignment of the shifter with the arrow that points to the gear (ya know Park/neutral/drive etc). You actually never know WHAT gear you're in, unless you're in neutral, which is currently the ONLY way to start the car, as it won't go into park. To start the car currently, you have to turn the key, put it into neutral and then start. If anyone has an idea of the problem, would appreciate your experience...
