After I had lost oil pressure the last time and couldn't get it back, I dropped the oil pan and found that the oil pickup screen from the oil pump was plugged up with a hard oil "sludge". I could see no other sign of sludge in the engine so I removed the oil pump
and cleaned the oil pickup, ( took some doing as the "sludge" was very hard and required some work to get it all off - I would just get a new oil pickup screen if I had to do it again) the oil pump itself was in very good condition. I have been using full synthetic oil since and have had no further problems.
I did all the work myself so I got off with about $30 in cash and about a days worth of work. If you have a shop do the work I have
been told it would cost somewhere around $400 to $600 Plus parts.
I had this problem back in 2005 and since I did the above I have had no more oil pressure problems. One thing I should say about this fix is you have to drop the front axle. Although you will not have to remove it from the car, this has to be done on the 4x4 models to get the oil pan off. I don't know about the 2x4 models. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Yes, I had to change the oil pump at 56,000 miles. Due to the sludge created by the engine, I lost oil pressure while rolling down the road. Not only was this an issue with this POS, I also had the following problems:
Replaced ball joints, twice on each side Rear window motors replaced, once, they are agin stuck. Brakes, I can't tell you how many times I have changed the brakes on the POS And lastly, blown head gasket that destoryed two pistons rendering the POS unserviceable without and engine change.
So, to the junkyard it goes. I really should find the engineers that created this fibne piece of machinery and leave it in their yard.
I WILL NEVER OWN A DODGE AGAIN!!

All I needed to know when I first had the oil pump replaced, when this LEMON was still under warranty, was that there are oil sludge problems due to Dumbler/Crackheads cheapass - penny pinchin' - slimy engineering of teenie tiny ports that don't allow smooth passage of oil, and I wouldn't be looking at a worthless "patriot blue" pile of sh*t in my driveway!!! Now I'm going to be out at least $3,000 (which could be worse from other stories I've read) when all's said and done, to make something of it again, with at least a used engine, before I can ever drive it off of a cliff where it belongs!!! Thanks you big Corporate Numbnuts for giving me that good ol' American made quality. How much more does a 3/8" machining bit really cost compared to the 1/4" ? I hope it helped YOU get ahead by choosing the lesser so YOU can have a reliable car and a decent place to live because you won't be getting anymore of my money and by the looks of our consumer market lately and the way word gets around I wouldn't be surprised to hear about you starting to sweat. I sure hope YOUR mortgages got paid off ! ! !

Oil pressure light on and off all the time, replaced sending unit, changed oil, changed filter, replaced oil pump all for nothing. Had regular oil changes according to the mfg requirements. Started out with regular oil but switched to full synthetic after the problem started. Too late damage done - engine full of sludge. Would not honor warranty wanted $5,500 to replace engine. Would not admit there was a problem but all of a sudden the newer Durangos have a Hemi engine ! The pile of junk cost me $33,000.00 all because I wanted to buy American ! Very sad reflection on American Quality and Honesty. "Quality was Job One" so I was led to believe. Dealership closed, building torn down, Dodge - A lesson in GREED
