Durango SLT 5.9L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,000 miles

After driving 15 miles (about) the engine begins to spit and sputter. Too much fuel in the carburetor. You can rev the engine in neutral to over 2000 rpm's but when you put it in gear it won't go over 1000 rpm's. Then you have to put the gas pedal to the floor when the engine is off to clear the gas. you can start it again in about 10-15 minutes, but it still doesn't run right. You can start the car the next morning and it runs ok, as long as it's not far.

Durango SLT 5.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I own a 1999 Dodge Durango and have had an on going problem. The idle speed has remained at ~1200 rpm in spite of my efforts. The check engine light has had a P505, Idle Air Control error code. It has been the only error code. The O2, HTR, and CAT indicators flash at the top of the diagnostic tool display.

I have replaced the idle air control valve (three times), throttle position sensor (twice), thermostat, radiator cap, intake manifold gaskets and both oxygen sensors.

The intake manifold vacuum is 18” at idle. As soon as the throttle moves, vacuum jump to 21 and remains there through increased throttle position.

I have checked/tested the MAP sensor, IAT sensor, and several other sensors.

What would you recommend as the next step towards a solution?

Thank you.
