1999 Dodge Durango front driver's side bearing were bad.** answer required***. the lower front ball joint also needs to be replaced because it can't be greased.

My 99 Dodge Durango 4X4 has had vibrations and noise in the front from when I purchased. The Dodge dealer earlier told me there were no recalls or hidden warranties on this product, VIN# [xxx]. my Goodyear dealer, inspected my Dodge and showed me that my upper and lower ball joints were bad (( moving over 1/2 in)) he said take it to your dealer, because this is not right. Dodge dealer also said that both right and left, upper and lower ball joints were bad and also that the hubs and wheel bearings. Were bad, and needed to be replaced for my safety. I called diamler Chrysler Corp. And asked if they would cover this mfg problem. I was given clam #13756706. The customer service person said they would not cover this problem because my VIN # not covered by the upper & lower ball joint recall. I could not believe this would not be covered, because when I looked up my 99 Durango on your site on complaints, I saw over 500 similar cases for 99 Durango, with ball joint and steering problems. Dodge said 99 not part of recall. I think the U.S gov. Needs to tell Dodge to include in recall all the Dodge Durango with this problem, please look out for the safety of the amer. People and not alow Chrysler Corp get away with this safety problem. I feel the amer people should not need to get the courts involved when we have an Agency that should protect the amer. People from defective products. I hope this ball joint problem etc. Does not became another "Ford - Firestone" situation. Dodge said they need to hear from you before they can do a recall on 1999 Dodge Durango's, (( with over 500 complaints of similar problems, how many more do you need!!)) I live in the Washington, D.C. area and when I drive I-495 beltway I hope you are not their when my front wheels fall off because of bad ball joints. Please do your duty and recall all Dodge Durango 1998 and up for upper & lower ball joints, steering etc. Please do your job and protect me and my family. Started with rebuilt transmission, then sludged in motor. Had to replace motor with only 120,000 miles motor and transmission 5,000. Also had to replace ball joints, tie rods and bearings cost $1,000

Consumer reported two incidents. First incident involved vehicle experiencing a thumping noise when accelerating from a stop position. Vehicle had been to the dealer, and dealer replaced the front wheel bearing. The second incident involved vehicle losing steering control while driving 35 mph. This almost caused a tractor trailer crashing into consumer's vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but problem recurred.

1999 Dodge Durango 4WD. Within the last twelve months I had to replace the ball joints, wheel bearings and everything else that goes with it on both the left and right front tires. With all the problems from the 1998 to 2003 models, I do not understand why the 98 and 99 models are not included also. Vehicle has less than 80,000 miles.

1999 Dodge Durango ball joints failed placing out of spec stress on wheel bearing. Wheel bearing failed, causing vehicle to have sever control problems at 75 mph fully loaded. Bearing failure destroyed antilock system making vehicle very difficult to stop. Dealer replaced antilock parts and bearing but did not have balljoints due to high demand. Balljoints not replaced due to cost - car not currently driven.

I had to replace wheel cylinders, ball joints, and ball bearing on my 99 Durango was told my wheel was falling off. I was lucky to be alive. I should be reimbursed for this. I couln't get my vehicle inspected because of this. It has been a hardship on me $1000 I had to pay to have this done. I'm disabled and could not afford this.

The bearings on the right and left front of the vehicle failed as a result of an unknown banging noise. The consumer was told that the vehicle needed an alignment. The alignment didn't change the condition of the truck and the consumer was told not to drive the truck no more than 5 miles an hour.

I own a 1999 Dodge Durango and the wheel bearings just collapsed on it. It collapsed on the highway and my wife didn't loose control but it did almost cause her to have a accident. She was able to get it safely off the highway. It has been diagnosed and to the tune of $1800 for repair to the front end because of this damage caused damage to other front end parts.

My 1999 Dodge Durango 4WD with 50,000 miles that has not been driven off-road, and maintained exclusively by the oem dealership, is presently at the Dodge dealership replacing the lower ball joints and front wheel bearings and this is, in my opinion, a safety issue and a manfacturing defect since this is premature wear.

I recently had to get the front driver's side suspension of my 1999 Dodge Durango replaced. The vehicle had 65,000 miles and is driven primarily for highway use. I thought this was very uncommon for this short use time period. The repairs were costly and Dodge claimed that this is sometimes common. Is NHTSA looking into safety issues related to this?

The right front wheel bearing locked up, and the tire blew out, which resulted in loss of control of vehicle.

Grinding noises and uncontrollable pulls to the right made the vehicle hard to control, especially when travelling on the highway - this causes an extreme safety problem. Brought the Durango to auto mechanic, he told us the left front tie rod needed replacement. Replaced tie rod end and found out left front wheel bearing is gone and is subject to seizure at any time. If this is not a safety hazard, I don't know what is because this front end suspension problem has the propensity to cause the vehicle to rollover when travelling on the highway or to tip on its side when driving upon back, city or Suburban streets.
