My problem is pretty much the same as the last few complaints about this subject. One note: I had a new PCM put in the Durango a month or so ago, so that won't do anything for this problem.

The RPMs on the Durango go from the normal 1700 up to 2500-3000 and then down to idle level, before finally leveling off again. This is an intermittent problem that I suspect happens more in humid/rainy weather. This leads me to believe I have some kind of connection problem somewhere. I will be taking it to the dealer soon, but I think they are going to tell me the same thing they tell me with all the other intermittent problems I have experienced, which is that they can't address or fix a problem that their computers can't read on site.

I agree with a previous user that I love my truck, but I just wish all these computers would get their stuff together and do what they are supposed to do!

The problem is the car won't stay in one gear and keeps shifting up and down while driving a 50mph on a flat road. I just spent $1800 on the vehicle because the power steering switch leaked into the oxygen sensor and caused the engine light to come on. While getting that repaired at the dealer they found the differential needed to be rebuilt so they did that. Add to that they had to replace the upper ball joints on the recall. After all that it still cost me $2000. I don't trust the car and just drive it very conservatively to avoid any other problems. other than that I like driving the car, just wish it had better reliability. Larry Carter

With the Overdrive On 4 gear slips in and out and it i turn it off i go though all gears fine i though it might be the tv cable from doing burn outs causing the problem happen i did a burn out if any one can help just e-mail me please

Durango SLT

I tried to flush the transmission, adjust the throttle presure cable, change the filter and fluid, but it did not work. Also changed sensor and another part in the transmission. I am not sure what its called (3,4 shift something) and still dont work. I would have to engage and quickly disengage the overdrive by pressing the button on the transmission shifter fast. That only helped it until I had to go up hill or accelerate.

This vehicle was supposed to be the cream of the crop in the Durango line up of trim levels. However the transmission from day one shifted like it couldnt make up its mind what gear it wanted to be in. Took it to the dealership and they adjusted throttle pressure.

Next day returned to the dealership to complain that the problem still existed. Then they replaced the Governor valve and the pressure switch in the transmission. After waiting 3 days (two days for parts and one day labor) I received a call telling me it was ready for pick up.

I drove it over the weekend, hauling my 3200 lb. ski boat to the lake and it was no better than the first day. I returned it to the dealership on Monday to complain once again. This time the service manager told me there was no problem with my vehicle that the shift pattern was normal. I advised him that I was a MASTER ASE certified Technician and that this was not normal. He flat out told me to take it up with Chrysler Customer Service.

Long story short! They have replaced the Governor valve and pressure switch 4 times, the valve body twice and performed update (flash programming) of the transmission controller and the vehicle still has the same damn problem!

Now 3 years later and 70000 miles the transmission is smoked. Junk I tell you! FLuid is pouring out of the front pump (bellhousing) as fast as you can pour it in and it wont pull itself in reverse. LEAVE IT UP TO DODGE TO BUILD A 38000 DOLLAR PIECE OF SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My transmission goes in and out of overdrive on flat roads .... just does it about every 3-4 min or sometimes more frequent.... i think it is just the tourqe converter engaging and disengaging..... please help....has anyone a cure for this...??
