This was the culmination of three separate incidents of the engine overheating. It was first diagnosed as a cracked hose and the hose assembly was replaced and the whole cooling system checked out to make sure everything else was working. Thought it was fixed until it overheated again...now we may be looking at a total engine replacement! Many others have have this problem prior to the engine completely failing from sludge buildup. Forgot to mention we just purchased this used, in September, and we can't replace it with anything else because of the loan, so we are stuck. Great position to be in when you need two vehicles and are a single income family. Trying to figure out if it would be better to put in a new engine or take the hit and trade it as soon as possible. It is a shame because we owned another Dodge and we got 150,000 miles out of it before it died. Now Dodge won't stand behind their product - we'll never buy another Dodge again! They know about these problems and don't have the guts to admit these engines are junk and recall them. And Detroit wonders why people don't want their vehicles anymore??!!

I have a 2001 Dodge Durango with 92,000 miles on it. This summer it started overheating on me. It's usually okay when I'm driving on a straight roads, but the minute I hook a trailer on to it or start pulling hills, it overheats! I've had the following work performed on it and it still overheats. No mechanics have been able to diagnose the reason? New heater core, New thermostat (Even tried running without one), new water pump, new antifreeze, new radiator cap and a cooling system power flush. I can drive it about 60 miles max, then the temp gauge rises so much I have to stop, all the water has boiled out all over the place. There is no water in the oil and no steam coming of of the tailpipe, so I'm told it's not a head gasket. I've dumped mega money into this darn vehicle and it's still not fixed! So I've basically just parked it now!! No idea on what to do?
