I have never had a car just up and do this to me, it started knocking on my way home from work. I was just coming up on my 3000 mile oil change. The truck has been down now for over a year and it is my winter/family vehicle. Now i am forced to drive my fusion which is not awd through the snow and ice, while it fits my wife and kids and i i cannot fit my dogs. My dogs are also family, and i will never buy another dodge. From here on out it will only be a ford! I was trained as an auto mechanic, and have an associates degree to prove it, however i cannot pinpoint an actual fix for this. I am not willing to spend $2000 on a rebuilt engine, i was happy with the truck until this happened. it ran nice and smooth, had decent power and fit my entire family with ease due to the 3rd row seating. I do not have extra money lying around to replace the truck or its engine so now i guess i am forced to wait another year until my other car is paid off to replace it. By the way i only owned the truck for a year before this happened, and i tend to be more likely to change the oil too often rather than not often enough. I have a 23 year old mustang that still runs great however it is not feasible as a winter vehicle in ohio.

JUST BOUGHT IT IN 2007 ONLY HAS 81,000 MILES ON IT ONE YR AFTER BUYING IT BOTH FRONT AXLES WENT OUT OF IT LUCKY I STILL HAD WARRANTY ON IT THEN A YEAR LATER I`VE GOT A PROBLEM WITH IT OVERHEATING AND NOW A MONTH LATER IT HAS A TICKING IN IT , HAD IT CHECKED AT MEINEKE AND THEY SAID IT WAS COMING FROM THE BOTTOM END OF MOTOR AND NEEDED A NEW ONE , I JUST BOUGHT ANOTHER FIVE YEAR WARRANTY ON IT BUT HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 1000 MILES BEFORE IT WILL COVER REPLACING THE MOTOR HOPEFULLY IT WILL LAST TILL THEN

We have had this 2001 Dodge Durango for 31/2 yrs, we bought it certified3.5 yrs ago w/ 37,000. yrs ago. It still looks brand new. The first yr we put alot of miles on it, however I have been home disabled for almost 2.5 yrs, and hardly go any where. This truck still looks brand new, XLT, clean, serviced regularly, saved receipts for repairs but of course I didn't save them for oil changes, stupid of me. It really was overnight last week, the car started ticking, oil pressure was down, and had turned to sludge. They are saying that we need a new engine, we were shocked!! Where do we find a rebuilt engine because we own this vehicle, and we can't pay $6,000. for a new engine so we started looking on the internet, something everybody does right? Well the complaints we found on the exact same yr, 4.7 liter V8, exact same problem!!! We stood there in amazement. We have a mortgage, 3 kids, I am disabled, how are we going to do this? We couldn't figure out how it happened, we just turned 40, both of us have had cars since we were in our teens, NEVER blew an engine, you're not talking to amateur car owners here!! No matter where you look, it's the same thing but Dodge/Chrysler won't admit it. I have called them, and asked nicely for assistance, then they tell me that there are safety recalls on the truck since 2007, well thank you, we have lived in our house for 8.5 yrs, couldn't you mail us or call us?! No wonder why these people are billions in the hole, has any body seen the horrible things that are going on w/ this vehicle? If they don't help us, I will fight it in Senate,just about anywhere, so they had better play nice!!

Knock knock knock !!!!!!! I am a fairly decent wrench, i build engines and such for my own drag car. I have removed the valve covers and checked each roller rocker. I have also checked the cam drive chains. Checked everything except under intake but there should not be any moving parts under there since there are no lifters or push rods. Oil pressure is good. No way it is a rod because it has been driven 4500 miles an has not changed. I am stumped, can anyone out there tell me anything about a damn dodge 4.7? I hear this problem all the time but never hear about a fix. Knock Knock Who's there.

I have owned my 2001 Dodge Durango for 1 1/2 years now. I have taken it in religiously for all of its oil changes, services and even had the recalls taken care of. Now I have a ticking noise coming from the engine. I took it to the shop and they are saying it's because I have sludge in the engine and the lifters are clicking because they are dirty. They say I haven't changed the oil enough - BS! When I explained I have all of my receipts to prove my oil changes, they said it must be from the previous owner. Then why 1 1/2 years later a problem arises after I have taken such good care of the car? There is no way at only 40k miles I should be having this problem. I bought the car with 20k so how many oil changes could it have missed? I read the Dodge Intrepid has this exact same problem - now my fear is it's a DODGE thing! I don't know what to do now...
